I love it when apps nowadays are randomly like "we detected a [exact model of your phone/computer] device trying to access your account from [your home address]", as if they don't have all that shit on file from the last thousand logins.

Telling people not to try to down helicopters is more along the lines of "don't randomly fire a gun into the walls of an ICE detention facility", and it should be obvious why both actions are a bad idea.

The bigger issue is just hardware support tbh. Ubuntu is that OS (you can tell because so many Linux users hate it), but I still can't recommend anyone install it on their laptop because it's a coin flip on whether the company that made the wifi card decided to make official linux drivers or not.

I think there's a practical dimension to using shitty box store costumes for these Portland protests, specifically.

The feds have been extremely willing to indiscriminately pepperball and tear gas everyone in sight, so wearing disposable Amazon garbage means they aren't ruining anything nice.

Yes! Some of them even have resources for accessing CAD programs, or maker spaces that offer free workshops.

There's also a price curve, at least if you want to do parametric modeling. FreeCAD kinda sucks and OpenSCAD is scary if you aren't a software engineer, which really just leaves the free tier versions of programs like Solid Edge or OnShape if you don't want to spend money on a subscription.

Depending on what you want them for, there's not much software required. Like, if you want to print a 3D model that already exists, you can pretty much just drag it into the print software of your choice and hit print.

The big learning curve is if you want to make your own models.
