If I could, please, recommend this book by Dame Jane Goodall. The message is hope is not a passive state of mind but a state of action. "Hope isn't just wishful thinking.”

The audio book is beautiful. It is so peaceful & lovely to hear her speak.

Libraries have free audio books to borrow.

I'm pro-union because I think workers should organize to balance the power that business owners have in various negotiations. It's true that unions have been weakened, but it's not because of multiculturalism. I would argue, it's because people seek to exploit divisions for their material interests.

But his assertion that diversity weakens unions ignores two things. First, labor unions have a long history of multiethnic coalitions. Second, it was the capitalists and political elites who tried to *exploit* ethnic divisions to maintain power. There is only one person here trying to stop unions:

And of course, later generations of garment-sector labor unions were heavily multi-ethnic. UNITE (Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees) drew from that legacy to create explicitly multi-ethnic organizing campaigns in garment factories and hotels.

"Social unionism" meant the union did more than fight for better wages. It provided affordable housing, health benefits, and unemployment insurance. Since many garment workers were newly arrived immigrants, the union would also teach people English.

Instead of breaking up, the workers galvanized. Tens of thousands of workers from different ethnic background marched through Lawrence, holding flags and singing in the streets. Their determination eventually won out and the moment is remembered as the "Bread and Roses Strike."
