I'm already tempted to add a word-filter mute for "Northsky".

[Explaining the vaguepost: because I only ever see mentions in the context of drama/discourse fights already started around it, not because I disagree with the goal of the project. If this is the first you're hearing of it, move along.]

I'll have to remember this one next time I'm being too hard on myself for how often I start sentences with filler words.
He liked the way she began her fierce, scornful sentences so often with a weak, conciliatory 'well.' She cut the ground out from under them before they ever got going, let them hang unsupported in the void. She had courage, great courage.

Looking through my Letterboxd account for ones where the reason isn't just "because it's bad" and settled on Okja.

Like I enjoyed watching it. Not a film nerd, but I remember it being clever and touching. But fuck are portrayals of what it's portraying rough, even for my high rough stuff tolerance.
Never mind movies you’ve watched multiple times, name a movie you’ve watched once and would never watch again.

It's been weird watching the Deltarune fandom on Tumblr.

By July they'd largely settled on fanon interpretations of Dess. Since then I've seen elaborate theories involving everyone from Jockington to Ramb, and even venting over characterization of FRIEND, who isn't so much a character as a filename

In five years (at most) these'll all be shuttered, won't they.

Sorry for being Like This (I blame the month), but I watched eXistenZ the other night, and now I wonder if Deltarune chapter 3 was influenced by this movie.

The way it keeps repeating that the game is "by Antenna", the Odd Controller, the weird relationships between players and their characters...

This includes if they have said something that you know you could dunk on so bitingly. Your followers' lives are made worse by seeing your clever dunk, because they'll also spend part of their one wild and precious life reading at least the original bad take and maybe even clicking through for more.
I cannot stress enough that is some rando responds to something you reposted trying to draw you into a “but have you considered” discussion of it, they are not acting in good faith, and you just block. Please, embrace the blue sky way. block. block. block.

It's heartening that I've only seen two Spotify Wrappeds this week, one of which had a "yeah, I know, I'm moving elsewhere" disclaimer.

Dunno how much is people dropping Spotify vs. just feeling ashamed about posting it, but, like, I've seen more from friggin' YouTube Music, which is unprecedented.

This is either LeGuinBot plays Deltarune or LeGuinBot plays Slay the Princess, depending on what voice you read it in.
I made myself a vessel. I know its shape. But not the clay. Life danced me. I know the dances. But I don't know who the dancer is.

Chicagoans will pay $76 per person this year for police misconduct settlements.
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

the thing about online queer discourse is unless you dig into things it's hard to tell if someone is speaking from a place of nuance and decades of lived experience or whether you're reading the untested absolutes of the most 15-year-old alive

As you consider Bandcamp Friday here's a 'what the...well, why not?' option. (It is indeed a collection of Autechre covers on guitar.)

My home has inherited some fancy audio equipment (we'd been in "cheap bluetooth speakers with a standalone transmitter" land til now).

In particular, the DAC and analog input-switching "preamp" boxes each have a "signal ground" on/off switch; the dedicated amp has a similar "chassis ground" switch.

Now at $645 of $925 LATE rent. That means we’re over 2/3 of the way there! You are all ✨amazing.✨

If I pay by tomorrow, 12/5, I’ll avoid punitive fees—and can take more than a few deep, grateful breaths. Thank you so much for helping.

Current* conditions near Chicago, IL:

I made the classic winter blunder of noticing that temperatures would fall below 20° F and hastily putting on one of my second-from-toastiest outfits for an afternoon out of the house.

Said outfits are meant for, like, 0° F.

So now I'm awkwardly too warm on the coldest day of the winter so far.

Thinking about what the Trojan War would sound like if it were recounted by the tiny ghost of Priam with a dangerous magic crystal.

Of course we only see the big war in Sailor Moon, not the years of trade disruption that impeded the manufacture of everything from ice skates to transformation pens.
Just realized that the fall of the Silver Millennium in Sailor Moon is probably just part of the Bronze Age Collapse.

Like, betraying your prince and trying to sack his betrothed's city: kinda standard Mycenaean warrior shit?

In other words, the Dark Kingdom is just Sea People who went to the moon

It's a small thing, but this popped up today in an app I'm stuck using (not gonna name and shame it), and, what the heck, in what universe is anyone's email less secure than their texts.

We all remember SIM cloning, right?

(This was not somewhere I'd worry about, e.g., adversarial family members.)

Kinda basic, but I'm a sucker for The Postal Service's "Nothing Better".

To be more niche, it's kind of amazing that Tylan Greenstein's one solo album (which I wish had a Bandcamp page or something) has both "Already Fine" and "Wild Awake" on it, which beautifully evoke two very different breakups.

I've been such a happy dork about the snow ever since it started on Saturday (and honestly I was similar about November's much lighter snow), and, like, I do feel for y'all with more sensitive bodies or without good winter gear or who are just not used to this.

But I am _so_ here for proper winter.
