There are very few scenes in movies which always hit for me, when Madeleine Lebeau sings La Marseillaise, it doesn't matter what kind of mood I am in, it always moves me to tears.

It is incredible to think they made this movie during the war.

someone needs to out-retro the others and start dressing like George Halas.

It's a cliché to refer to a certain type of football coach as a mad scientist. It’s a cliché I really like, and keep returning to, because I like the image of Clark Shaughnessy in a Swiss Castle cutting his reel to reels in perfect time to a thunderclap. ko-fi.com/post/1940-NF...

last one sorry! I like reading negative reviews of things I like! Either I hear an interesting perspective, or I get pissed about something low stakes, which can be fun and productive!

i yelled at my least favorite friend like a decade ago because he said some novel was a work of art and i said that means nothing! you just told me this novel was a work of art, why didn't you tell me that this novel has pages with symbols on them which represent words.
kitwrenaway.bsky.social
also! something I think about a lot: the bad ones are art too, and maybe it's good that we're treating previously disposable subgenres with respect! "Work of art" is not a title that only the quality entries get, work of art is a type of endeavor, and endeavors can fail!

this will eventually become a market problem, but kinda always is. making it a moral argument to guilt people is done with markets in mind, but it's not gonna work, because people are better than ever at pretending the things they want to do are actually moral decisions.
kitwrenaway.bsky.social
but at the same time Snobs Classic keep wanting to make this a moral panic and like...no? I don't even necessarily think this is new, I just think people are oddly more sophisticated in self-justification than ever before.
