It actually doesn't matter too much if Starmer is going to be able to pull off some grand coalition against fascism if he's not willing to arrest Elon for openly funding and preaching a violent overthrow of your government.

Just as a pro tip from the US, if the election is going to be existential, then your country already lost it.

You need to start figuring out who is funding the nazis, call for the UK's laws to be enforced and make sure that they are.

It seems pretty clear to me now: Keir Starmer would rather lose to Reform than to the Labour left, which is his real enemy. Any policy that might recover lost ground with voters has to be struck down, as it looks like a concession to the Labour left. And he and his team cannot contemplate that.

No sudden rupture is now required for the far right to take power in this country. For what we're seeing is a steady normalisation of extremists by the Conservative and Labour Parties, BBC, Telegraph, Mail and others. A shift once considered unthinkable beings to look acceptable, even inevitable.🧵

This is something that, when I finally got around to reading it, I meant to just skim, and ended up reading all the way through. I would put this up with Adam Serwer's "The Cruelty Is the Point" article (archive.ph/NjiSx) as one of the key explainers of why things are so bad today.
Many millions of Americans love Trump because he routinely humiliates people. It validates their own actions. They live vicariously though him, imagining the humiliation they could inflict if they were given greater power. He also normalizes the behaviour. The symbolic power of having someone of his open sadism in the Oval Office is massive. It is changing our society, making humiliation much more acceptable, and corroding the norms that partially restrain humiliators.

‘Why did he/Tories Tories sign them?’

Because they are incompetent and corrupt charlatans?

Former Tory Minister Michael Gove says the post-Brexit Tory trade deals with Australia and New Zealand were bad for UK farmers.

Why did he/Tories Tories sign them?

Brexit hasn't yielded any economic benefits. UK gave up the best trade deals and now scavenges for whatever it can get.
Michael Gove admits that post-Brexit trade deals were bad for farmers
Michael Gove has admitted for the first time that the Australia and New Zealand trade deals negotiated by the former Tory government did not protect Britain’s farmers.

"Keane and Riemer...have argued that criticizing Zionism or Israel is not racist hate speech."

It is ludicrous that this commonsense position should have to be defended in court.

And shows just how far the Israel lobby will go to silence their critics. #auspol

Why is the gas industry notorious for paying so little tax, despite making billions in revenue?

Santos has made it 10 years in a row paying no tax!

And this is why us leftist Christians keep talking about how it feels like two different religions: because when it comes down to it, they do not think WE are real Christians and will treat us accordingly when we follow Christ to stand up for the marginalized and oppressed.

Not just elections. I still think back on doing traffic safety for a small march in a northern suburb of Denver and having the cops literally redirecting traffic back at us. When one of us went to ask them to stop actively endangering ppl, the cop said "can't, we've been defunded."
notalawyer.bsky.social
the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
