The real story here is Superman’s steady cooption of the Daily Planet’s staff to ensure favorable coverage. He is the John McCain of the DC Universe.

Even before the romance started this was an ethical minefield. He saved her life a dozen times. I don't care how hard she tries to stay objective, that's a softball interview.

The only excuse Lois Lane has for why her interviewing Superman isn't unethical, despite their romantic entanglement, is that it would be even more unethical for the paper's other top reporter, who is Superman, to interview himself, yet she cannot say this. This dilemma should be taught in J-school.

Beginning to see a lot more people say the NYT is in the tank for Mamdani and just wondering at this point if anyone lives on this planet anymore

they share this delusion with Democratic federal leadership which is why the 2026/2028 primaries could be very interesting
A mutual on the other site just pointed out something re: criticism of No Kings/50501 from the left, and that it's most of them simply do not understand that Democratic party leadership and the base Democratic voters are not remotely the same thing

this really is critical, and a thing I’ve consciously spent the last nine months trying to emphasize as a vague unaffiliated leftist. there is a whole lot of common ground to be found with the Dem base in this moment—it’s a massive opportunity if we’re not too dismissive to recognize it.

participating in No Kings is not 'supporting' or 'allying' with the Democratic party' - at least in my experience, No Kings is a direct response to the absence of Democratic party leadership, and the closest connection to elected Dems is if they are invited to speak.

This photo accompanying a news story about the heist at the Louvre is perfection.

Mahmoud Khalil joined Mehdi to discuss the conflation between anti-zionism & anti-semitism & his hope for a land where everyone can co-exist peacefully.

Noah Smith has a history of anti-Arab (and anti-Black, anti Asian, anti-Muslim) remarks.

Noah Smith seems to now believe that accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, something which is now the consensus of all major human rights organizations on the planet as well as the International Association of Genocide Scholars, is comparable to the 2020 election denialism of the GOP.

Why am I supposed to entertain farcical claims of Palestinian discrimination against Israeli Jews when there is no state mechanism which exists for such discrimination? The complaint is essentially that Palestinians don't like Israelis. OK, so what? Why should we?

Oftentimes what is done vis a vis US discourse on I/P is there is the pretense that there's two equal actors with equal responsibilities when in fact there is one state, one regime, one sovereign power which has a singular dominion over all of the territory west of the Jordan River.
There is no Palestinian law because there is no Palestinian state.

It's so funny that anyone pretends to give a shit about the Holy Land Five today

Zohran Mamdani isn’t just dangerous—he’s a walking blueprint for institutional collapse. His record speaks for itself: praising terror-linked groups like the Holy Land Five, refusing to condemn antisemitic chants like “globalize the intifada,” and

Actually kind of absurd how bad British cable news is on this issue. True for the US as well with how the NYT says "Israeli-controlled West Bank / Golan".
"The Israeli occupation, as they describe it"

No, as international law, the United Nations, the European Union, the US govt, the UK govt, and most govts around the world describe it. They all include Gaza as part of the occupied Palestinian territory.

Internet vernacular is so funny. I saw someone say, let's amplify the voices of Europeans. OK. The photo they used was a screenshot of Donald Tusk. Brother he's literally the Prime Minister of a country what do you mean amplify him.

and it’s one of the main reasons why corporate and big donors want to plow a lot of money into marginal electeds— once they’re more afraid of losing those donations than they are of their constituents, that’s the ballgame.

This is true of most GOP electeds, fwiw. It’s how/why they’re willing to be weird and freaky by DC standards.

Sad to see rampant antisemitism in Israel
A football match in Israel involving Maccabi was cancelled yesterday after rioting. The team Maccabi were playing has accused the police of brutal violence.

People endlessly talk on here about big of a mistake it is for Israel to pin all of its ambitions onto one party in the United States but to be true that necessarily entails the other party actually doing something substantive to punish Israel next time it controls the government.

Democratic Party consensus on Palestine lags far behind the views of the Democratic base, and this dynamic is likely to only be exacerbated over the next few years. I have a forthcoming piece about that later this week.
