I will not be tolerated. My life is international politics, travel, & @KelsaPellettiere.com. Some call me a “recovering libertarian,” but I’m more like a functioning libertarian. I voted against myself one time.

New from me: it’s been hard to write anything about what’s going on in America this last week, but we’ve moved from “threat to free speech” to “a state that actively restricts political speech” very quickly. https://www.kevinyeaux.com/p/an-elephant-on-our-chest
An Elephant on Our Chest
America’s descent into being a state without free expression was quick, and eventually will affect us all.

When I told @kelsapellettiere.com that I was going to be playing video games in my office, I don’t think she knew that mean playing an ancient solitaire demo on an emulated System 7 installation.

Were this 17-point swing to occur uniformly in every Congressional district as now drawn, the result would be approximately 264 D seats, 171 R seats, a 51-seat shift. TX gerrymandering gains would be limited to 2 seats; NC/MO, backfire.

Not to say this will happen, just to illustrate the impact.

I would argue this is much worse than the Alabama senate race in 2017 - while the Dems narrowly lost here, it was a decent Dem swing plus Roy Moore that moved that race. The GOP nominee here was perfectly normal - basically Generic Republican - and he almost lost.

So it’s clear that the GOP is in real political trouble. And remember: it’s still 11 months until Election Day. In American politics, it’s extremely rare for public opinion to shift back towards a sitting government when it’s moved away.

These #TN07 look bad, bad for the GOP. They shouldn’t squeak by even in an apocalyptic political environment. If they lose, which I still think is unlikely, watch for “resign” or “impeach” start to be whispered.

That’s a true story! I was a delegate candidate for Rand Paul in the 2016 Louisiana GOP presidential caucus. By caucus day Rand had dropped out, all efforts were on stopping Trump from getting a majority at the RNC, so we agreed on supporting a mixed slate of Cruz & Rubio delegates.

Trump loses support not in waves, but person by person. Saw the same in the first term (until it collapsed after Jan 6th but he had already lost by that point).

Trump will get crazier and crazier before he becomes powerless.

The need to ensure that our civil service and military don’t follow illegal orders becomes more and more important in that scenario.

New polling in South Africa shows the DA within 5% of the ANC, with other parties collapsing to below 10%.

Interesting that the DA’s continual leadership drama and being in coalition with the ANC nationally has not hurt it at all.

I think the other aspect here is something I’ve said for a while… Trump is pretty left-wing economically. For much different reasons than Mamdani is, to be sure, but there’s a reason their biggest shared political opponents are centrist liberal economists.
