I will not be tolerated. My life is international politics, travel, & @KelsaPellettiere.com. Still a moderate libertarian… I know. I voted against myself one time. KevinYeaux.com

New from me: it’s been hard to write anything about what’s going on in America this last week, but we’ve moved from “threat to free speech” to “a state that actively restricts political speech” very quickly. https://www.kevinyeaux.com/p/an-elephant-on-our-chest
An Elephant on Our Chest
America’s descent into being a state without free expression was quick, and eventually will affect us all.

The Xbox store reviews for the 2025 F1 game are ice cold.
Local organizers estimated about 350 total, which looked about right to me.

Happening now: Here’s a view of the “No Kings” protest in Washington, DC
In other news congratulations to Max Verstappen on his fifth world championship…
More from the ongoing No Kings in Oxford, Mississippi. No one can tell me if I’m supposed to receive my George Soros money as a check or direct deposit, but otherwise great turnout.
How you know you’re at a No Kings rally in Mississippi

Not being even vaguely sarcastic:

At some point, a journalist needs to ask Johnson “you regularly claim you have no idea what your own government is doing. If we take you at your word, how are you so poorly informed, and do you this level of ignorance should disqualify you as speaker?”
Q: What's your message to the 170 US citizens who have been detained by ICE? About 20 of them are children

MIKE JOHNSON: I don't know what you're talking about with the children. I haven't seen that so I'm not going to comment on it.
Few of these words make sense.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy gets a question from former Biggest Loser trainer Cara Castronuova, a Jan. 6 defendant advocate who now works for the MyPillow Guy's network.
Biden rather famously ended a war… it massively hurt his approval ratings and he never recovered!
Trump: "I don't think any president has ever ended a war, frankly. One war. I did eight of them. Do you think Biden ended a war? ... it's gonna be nine."
It will be one of the greatest insults in the world if this administration puts me in the position of defending John Bolton.
Kevin’s Coffee Tariff Watch: 32 oz bag of Community Coffee is now $20 at the local Walmart, 25% increase compared to November 2024.
Honestly the Dems really should put the leaked texts in ads next to any photos they have of GOP electeds next to these people.

It’s what they would do to them if the roles were reversed. Glad to see Jeffries actually playing politics vs trying to work in “health care” somewhere in it.
Hakeem Jeffries posted pictures of two Rep. Members posing with “Young Republicans” who were part of a racist text thread (as reported by Politico).

In response, Mike Davis (well-connected in Trump World & on the Hill) called Jeffries a “house slave” for George Soros - proving Jeffries’ point.
I remember back in 2019 a NRCC staffer called me, publicly, a misogynist because of my criticism of their tweet calling a Dem candidate a fake nurse. If I had done this in 2015, in a much less public-facing role, I would have been fired so fast. It’s amazing how quickly the party unmasked itself.
It used to be the case that most GOP staffers, both in government and on the campaign side, were more liberal/moderate than the base. That was definitely my experience on the campaign side of things.

In Trump’s party, many of those people are gone and it’s flipped to being much more radical.
So… a GOP congressional staffer was in a virtual meeting in their House office when someone noticed they had a flag pinned on their cubicle wall showing an American flag with a swastika on it. They said they think it was “vandalism” and the Capitol Police are “investigating.”
Capitol Police called to investigate swastika in GOP congressional office
An American flag altered to include an image of a swastika was found in Rep. Dave Taylor’s office.

Of course maybe that’s why the hard right won and the crunchy libertarians didn’t, which is pretty depressing but probably true.
Also as someone who used to work in youth politics all throughout my high school and college life… we wouldn’t excuse this sort of behavior, publicly or privately. And we were on the right so we saw similar leanings in kids and one of our jobs was to sit them down and tell them it wasn’t okay!
JD Vance dismisses Young Republicans who in a group chat said "I love Hitler" and joked about slavery and rape as "a bunch of kids" who "told stupid jokes" and adds that "most of the stupid things I did when I was a teenager and young adult, they're not on the internet."
Do you mean that JD Vance used to do even stupider things than what we are seeing today?

I genuinely don’t think that’s possible.

RIP to Windows 10, the second worst version of modern NT-based Windows.
I must have misunderstood because I thought we were doing pro-constitutional-monarchy protests.

No, Kings!
TFL posted a YouTube short of a first run 99 Beetle owned *by VW* as a commemorative vehicle and… the headliner is falling down. Classic.

"Residents in Chicago and Portland are living in a police state where masked armed forces kidnap who they want to kidnap, where they have to listen to public officials routinely lie about what is happening in their neighborhoods." donmoynihan.substack.com/p/purge-merg...
Federal Secret Police and plainclothes ICE agents kidnap multiple people from a neighborhood in Chicago. They then deploy teargas and brutally beat neighbors who come out to express their concern.
Another day in Trump’s America.
The entire incident is infuriating and terrifying. She’s a Latina woman who was working a service job. On her way home late at night, with her headphones in, she was detained for an hour by masked federal agents who wouldn’t give her their names.
If you’re looking at that 2% for the only GOP candidate curiously, obviously what few Republicans there are in Orleans generally vote for moderate Dems.

My favorite fun fact about Dem strength in NOLA is that Trump got a lower share of the vote in Orleans in 2024 than in Manhattan, SF, or Portland.
New Orleans city councilor Helena Moreno projected to avoid a runoff and win the race to become mayor outright tonight, currently at 55% with most precincts in. She has been the front runner all campaign long and backed by much of the city’s business community and former mayor Landrieu.
