I do nothing of interest or import. Hopelessly in love with @youngmrduffy.bsky.social. Comes up with ideas, but not mechanics, over at third-country-press.itch.io. She/her.

this is where movements become moments & die: people see the display of a radical tactic and, not comprehending the tactical purpose, adopt only the display as an echo of the fight.

it becomes an empty, consumerist meme: buy an inflatable and dance around and that’s how you fight ICE!

as charming and whimsical as some will view this, it bears noting that absurdity—not militancy or might—are what people have chosen to repeat from the portland standoffs against ICE.

why is that?

what purpose does this serve?

a mini 🧵:

The Portland Frog army has now infiltrated Tulsa, OK and they’ve made an unlikely alliance with the T-Rex infantry and Sharks on Hoverboards mercenary forces.

This is truly terrifying.

“ALL of Florida lost its [interlibrary loan] services as of October 1. This, of course, most harms those in rural communities. That means those with the most to lose and with the weakest access to education and entertainment materials are now wholly dependent on what their own library owns…”
The Current State of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (October 2025 Edition)
Grant money that should be going to library projects is going to state-sponsored propaganda, among other IMLS updates.

Rupert Murdoch is awful, but he was an actual newspaper person who understood that alienating your core audience is not good business. For Bezos, the Post was a vanity project, and is now a loss leader to protect his other interests.

Putting out a call: if you were part of WOTC’s late-2010s live events (Stream of Many Eyes, D&D Live, The Descent), I would love to talk to you as part of the Actual Play book.

[email protected] will reach me, either to schedule a chat or to share your memories.

Please feel free to share.

Shocked to hear about the passing of Rob Wieland. I only had brief interactions with him, but he was always kind, patient and professional. He will be sorely missed.

It is today I learned that, for the most part, the story of this man and his wife inviting a desperate woman to live with them and then trying to get her to join a polycule has pretty much zero footprint online. Even looking it up outside Twitter is hard because he and Viper have the same name.

🔥 This Thursday! I’m finally sitting down with Gareth Gore, author of Opus: The Cult of Dark Money, Human Trafficking, and Right-Wing Conspiracy Inside the Catholic Church — the book I’ve been championing for months. @garethgore.bsky.social

I am one of those lapsed Catholics.

the thing that has struck me about this is how many lapsed Catholics are taking this very seriously. I think for a lot of formerly religious folks there’s still a spark of faith deep down, the actions of organized religion have just done their best to kill it

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

As the Salvation Army's enabling of ICE is drawing more attention to them, read our piece on their long record of anti-queer/trans hatred, classism and abuse of the poor.

I studied abroad in Japan when I was in college. I could speak the language pretty well, but I struggled to read it. Books written in English were hard to come by and treasured when I found them. I wonder if that gentleman felt the same way.

Books are cool. We should share them more often.

I had no idea if he’d want anything to do with it. But he took it gently, leafed through it, then softly began reading it aloud. He did this throughout the evening, stopping only to eat his dinner. I don’t think he looked up from it all night.

As I was talking to one of the attendees, I asked if she knew anyone who might want a Polish language book. Another attendee perked up. She was from Poland; her elderly father was with her. I gave her the book, and she immediately gave it to him. It was a small book about Greek mythology.

A Bookcrosser in Europe sent me a box of books to get out into my community. One of the books I received was written in Polish. I don’t read that language and had no idea what to do with it. I happened to have it with me tonight when @youngmrduffy.bsky.social and I went to a potluck.

Happy little thing to share.

I’ve recently gotten back into Bookcrossing. You register a book on the site; it gets an ID number. You then share the book or leave it in a public place for people to find. If they leave a journal entry, you can follow where your book goes.

I find it bleak that ChatGPT now has more users than Wikipedia. Many people would rather be spoon-fed information by a machine than read and research for themselves. Tech isn't just making us dumber. Worse than that: it's killing curiosity itself and the desire to learn.
