If we want long term change we need popular ed, frontline intellectualism, study & struggle, and mutual aid to move us to lasting systems change (the end of the carceral state and racial capitalism => just sustainable futures). Comms is short term, performative and gets us, well, the DNC & NPIC

I’m so old that when I go to an organizing meeting & part of the training is from “NPIC” what I bring are the citations. I’m not dismissing that role — and I’m a bit shocked that people aren’t 1) citing people 2) deriving hope from past struggles won 3) offering context.

Until we have guaranteed public services and safety nets we're always going to have these incumbency issues because incumbents (esp with seniority) deliver "constituent services" (or what I call favors) -- they don't do it equitably (and everyone who has worked on a campaign knows that)

In college a million years ago I used to say "time is political" and it seems like we're wasting so much time on generative AI -- feeding it, debating it, correcting it

When I was doing my doctoral work & teaching, I did all of the prof development I could on teaching & learning. I'm really interested in how we learn, how we think, and how we think abt thinking.

I'm bewildered by most "leaders" in 2025.

Why are people acting surprised? I think people have not been thinking critically abt everything from shared space to the ways in which the forprofit sector has used NPIC as a profit center

They have used their “free” CRM to lure orgs away from easier-to-maintain smaller CRMs in the name of ”scale“

More and more these are the types of jobs available in my state. They are all defense related. This is a big bi-partisan effort that no one wants to challenge. They've taken over a community college.

I haven't eaten anything or slept more than 2 hours but I've gone to the store, come home, and made rice (with the rice water saved) and sweet potatoes for my dog which she'll have to wait to eat for at least 12-24 hours depending on how her stomach does

If your state has an open checkbook feature you can find out, look up the LLC to see who might be behind it, and then search for political donations (by name, company name, etc). Of course this reporting is neither uniform nor uniformly accessible by state. (Does anyone have a nationwide guide?)

I always wonder how much the fences cost and who got the contract. The amount of money spent fencing poor people in & out of places could be spent on, well, housing.

Tonight she wants to “walk it off” — this happened once before and we walked for a couple of hours until the sun rose.

I don’t have that energy but we’ve taken two walks since midnight. I’m hoping we both can get a nap.

The shame is overwhelming, but I have to say it. I survived on the streets only by staying with a man who was my abuser and rapist. My current home is my shield. Anything helps to keep that shield up.
