Solving tax problems and hitting the trails, for both YMMV. Enthusiasms: stitchery, Germanistik, random stuff that reminds me of my youth.
We have our staff meeting up here and discuss business matters so that I can write off this road trip, right, right?? #NotTaxAdvice #TaxSky #TaxBS

For us folks with aging parents, ooof.
"Giving thanks for what we are allowed to think about it, grateful for it even as it wanes. For knowing it is there... All of it a blessing. The being there. Being alive then. Like a giant bell ringing long after you can’t hear it." —Jack Gilbert, "Burma"

After a PhD in the humanities and getting and managing to lose a tenure track job I took an oath (like Scarlett O’Hara) to never be unemployable again. So I became a tax accountant.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

My Alma mater represents!!
Tributes at Bryn Mawr College to the brilliant mathematician Emmy Noether, who spent her final years there. Noether revolutionized the methods of modern physics by identifying continuous symmetry groups with conservation laws. The third image is her grave marker.

This is an excellent day to remember that you can sing the verses (though not the chorus) of C. E Carrol‘s Walloping Window Blind to the tune of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Gender is a performance, and past performance is no predictor of future value.
Gender is a performance, and I need you to play that music, not read it.
Gender is a performance, and more of me in the cans.

Hegseth‘s speech sounds even creepier translated into German, just saying.

Wow, if this is in fact true, more power to the irs.
Exclusive: The Internal Revenue Service said Friday it wouldn’t tell immigration authorities whether people had claimed the earned income tax credit, citing privacy protections.

Later that day, Billy Long was on his way out.

Truly bananas.
Obviously have to repost this because it is truly bananas and I am going to watch it again tonight
Since people seemed to like my newsletter from earlier this week I present the absolute weirdest thing Tom Lehrer ever did, a 1967 promo film for Dodge execs:
