And I can't believe I landed such a great seat so cheap via Hottix. Expected a nosebleed seat but got tenth row orchestra!
Intermission time here at Cherubini's Medea at the Lyric Opera. Sondra Radvanosky is thrilling in the title role. This is the greatest, darkest live performance of any opera I have ever seen.

Mike Johnson appears to be doing de facto dissolving of the House of Representatives as we know it - just so he could help keep the Epstein files in the dark.
It's official: Speaker Johnson just cancelled all votes in the House next week.

The next scheduled voting day is 10/27; the last time the House was in session was 9/19.

👀 “Ms. Brockman was taken to the ground, battered, handcuffed and her pants were pulled down exposing her bare buttocks. No one should be treated like that in this city, in this country, or anywhere else in the world." - Brockman's attorney

This story re WGN employee is not going away.
WGN employee released without charges after she was 'violently detained' by federal agents, her lawyer says
Debbie Brockman, of WGN's creative services department, is a U.S. citizen not acting in a professional capacity when she was arrested Friday in Lincoln Square.

When I interviewed her for my book Gillian Armstrong told me that the studio was interfering when they were maybe a day behind schedule filming MRS. SOFFEL and Diane Keaton called the studio and said “Leave Gil alone. She’s doing a great job.” And the studio left her alone the rest of the shoot.

Rest in peace to the great Diane Keaton, fearless and unique, a dream actress indeed. 📷 Norman Seeff, Los Angeles, 1975

aaand we are officially in the hide-your-neighbors stage
He's the best governor I've lived under by far (I've lived under other Dem govs in Jersey, NC, NY, and IL. Less said the better.).

He's also just about the only candidate I've ever voted for who surprised me in a positive way.

All of the other "surprises" were very much of the other variety.
As I've been saying for years now, I really, really, *really* like my governor.

He's not perfect by any means. But he's sooo much better than I expected. Excellent communication skills, good values, and some solid (and surprising, esp. on the labor front) policy accomplishments.
Amazing. He looks right into the camera as he is saying this.
If you come for my people, you come through me.

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

The orange douchebag is threatening Chicago with the National Guard again so I just printed 250 more copies of this single-sheet zine that I wrote/published at the end of August. Free with any order from www.halfletterpress.com. Read it here: drive.google.com/file/d/1u8xW...

My favorite of the above is #3, "Pick up all the dog shit in the city and sculpt it into a likeness of Jon Burge."

Note: I have no idea who created this, or indeed who in my building posted it (though I would very much like to meet them!).
I don't have words to express how sickened, weary, and *extremely* pissed off I and my fellow Chicagoans are with Trump's fascist bullshit.

Case in point: this delightful pamphlet, which appeared this week in the lobby of my apartment building.

There it is...Trump calls for the arrest of the mayor of Chicago and Governor Pritzker.

So, for all the incrementalists in denial...are we there yet? 🤔
- Did we cross the line into authoritarianism yet?
- Is it fascism yet?
- Is he "joking"?

He & Stephen Miller want civil war.

This is a vital piece about how and why the polling industrial complex blows. It goes a long way to explaining why the Democratic party sucks ass.
