In every field I've ever worked in, there's been no shortage of good ideas but a critical shortage of funds to implement them, which has so only gotten worse as billionaires consolidate wealth. So only "proven" successes get funded, which means the same old ideas (hence 50 books on Chanel and Dior).

Every once in a while when I'm feeling down about my lack of career opportunities, I think of the actual cover letter I sent when applying to an 'AI Alignment Data Scientist' position (i.e., someone who's job it was to make sure the superintelligent AI is good instead of evil), & I feel a bit better

WSJ is relied on by real interests to present factual information that drives markets. NYT is mostly trying to hit an imaginary sweet spot where imaginary centrist voters will accept them as a reliable source. Their coverage has become contrived bc their target audience is contrived.

Maybe I’m hopelessly naive, but I don’t think that many of the richest people on earth who are making headlines lately were “always” like this. Sure, they were always susceptible. But I think they really were radicalized and I wish I had a better understanding of how and why.

This is a thoughtful thread about the Democratic Party and how it functions in regards to leadership, campaigning, and representation.
Once you realize that in Dem politics money and status are rewards generally given to people most willing to reinforce and gussy up the status quo, the whole party will make a lot more sense to you

So if I’m understanding today correctly, the world’s richest person Elon Musk, whom no one elected, is taking over federal payment systems and employee data while the federal employees who investigate and prosecute public corruption are being fired en masse.
