Every month, my Read It Slant group reads a (poetry) book. We each select a poem to focus our discussion. This month we’re reading @eireannmor.bsky.social’s Pattern-book, and I’m having a devil of a time choosing. Thankfully @pounk.bsky.social already chose one of my favorites: “An Ampler — Zero —“

Thank you, @benjij.bsky.social, for making me newly obsessed with this fierce little falcon 💙

Fascinating piece about the link between tenacious predators and how they not only benefit the landscape — but our food, too.

Would I date this Denver building?

State Capitol Annex

Wears cuff links to a school production of Our Town. Started greying at 24. Steinway smile. Swoon.

BUT… lives in his sibling’s shadow. Major dome envy. Our insecurities meet like fire and gasoline.

It’s a no, but sad about it.

Welcome to a new occasional series, “Would I date that Denver building?”

We begin with 655 N. Broadway.

Hesitant yes.

He’s seen some stuff. (Deals with it through steady tobacco use.) Looks great in a white t-shirt and jeans. Generous in bed. My parents have questions, but also sorta get it.

What a coincidence—I named my fists “mary” and “oliver” because they do not have to be good
I named my fists "mary" and "oliver" because they're gonna let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.

(I don't care if this makes sense I can't stop laughing.)
I named my fists Common and Sense because I'm about to bring the Paine

One of my more recent favorites. Wish I had a better picture though. I take them when I finish which is often at night but I find afternoon sun gives the truest colors.

Happy December! Your annual reminder:

1. It's easy to call end-of-year celebrations a "holiday" party instead of a "Christmas" party so that people feel included
2. It's also silly to call explicitly Christmas stuff a "holiday" event, we do know when it's a Christmas thing
3. Everyone likes cookies
Thinking about the time my Upstate NY college had a "holiday cookie exchange" & I was annoyed so I brought sufganiyot (hanukkah donuts) with a lil note about what they were

Some dude brought venison jerky & he saw my note and wrote one that said "VENISON JERKY: bc I don't know how to make cookies"😂

I can’t decide if “enjoy” is the right word for how I feel about this book, but it’s hypnotizing me for sure.

Honestly, same. Except I have a small quibble with 5—I prefer 5. Many people don’t realize that 5 is actually the original, but once you’re familiar with 5 *and* 5, 5 really stands out.

I stand by my longstanding claim that December should be secular Tom Waits month. (Religious Tom Waits month being January, you see.)
