The bill would require existing dual citizens to renounce one nationality within one year or automatically lose their U.S. citizenship. This conflicts directly with Supreme Court precedent establishing that citizenship cannot be stripped without voluntary intent.

The top 2 reasons the US government is trying to stop and delay naturalizations are naturalization is a shield from deportation and that naturalization grants voting rights (both because they overwhelmingly voted Democrat in most elections -- 2024 was an outlier -- and the symbolism of voting).
