I am a US citizen living in an immigrant neighborhood in a state with a Democratic governor. I believe our Republican senators are the reason we're not being targeted, but all it would take is for our governor to say something Trump doesn't like.

America has reached a tipping point. Unless a literal miracle happens, from here things will get much, much worse than anyone has ever imagined. And I have no lack of imagination.

I'm gonna have to say Little House on the Prairie. I am not counting the short-lived "New Beginning" series that continued for a season or two, only the original series with Charles and Caroline. Its finale was unconventional but profound. SPOILERS below.
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

The stable, when Heaven came down.
A few excerpts from Darmok's Christmas Story:

Ralphie and Flick, at the flagpole.

Randy, his arms down.

The Old Man, when the lamp broke.

Santa and Ralphie, on the mountain.

It just occurred to me that every week in the #OrthodoxChristian liturgy we are reminded of the wisdom of listening to The Doors.

I'll just see myself out now.

When I was 8 (1978) I convinced a couple of small neighborhood stores to let me sweep their floors for 50¢. It became a regular gig.

Back in the 90s I used to say that I thought there would be a civil war in my lifetime. I eventually decided that I was being dramatic and irrationally pessimistic.

Over the past several months I've become increasingly convinced that my original instincts were right.
A group of 19 Democratic governors on Thursday condemned President Trump’s threat to send National Guard troops into major cities like Chicago, Baltimore and New York as an “alarming abuse of power.” www.nytimes.com/2025/08/28/u...

I love the old man on the Cracker Barrel logo. He advocates for a $20/hour starting wage. (No wonder they wanted to get rid of him!)

Create a political climate hostile to business owners and a cultural climate hostile to Christians, then freak out when Christian business owners leave. Yep, that makes sense. 🙄
The CEO of In-N-Out Burger announced that she plans to move her family to Tennessee as the chain establishes a corporate office there, drawing a backlash in California, where her grandfather founded the company nearly 80 years ago.

By most standards this post isn't much, but I believe it's the most popular one I've personally had on Bluesky so far. Some of you sound a bit enthusiastic about it, and I totally get it.

Problem is, it would mean war. I can imagine thinking it might be worth it, but is it really?
I have said for years that Texas may be the state that makes noise about secession, but California is the state that might actually do it.

This is a terrible policy. Now the tax code favors tips over paying a living wage. Eventually every customer-facing job will pay $2.13/hour and we'll be expected to tip on basically every financial transaction.

I like Bluesky. But for some people it's just as much a haven for extremists as Twitter has become for some other people.

It's absolutely nuts to look at the comments on every @nytimes.com post and see people accusing them of being Nazis and MAGA collaborators.

No tax on tips is the worst provision of the budget bill that no one talks about. Economic activity gravitates toward what is not taxed. This bill codifies what used to be a technically-illegal under-the-table practice and gives tip earnings a special preferred status.

Every time I see "Fordo" I misread it.
Centrifuges at the Fordo uranium enrichment plant in Iran are "no longer operational" after the U.S. attacked the facility with bunker-busting bombs, Rafael Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said on French radio Thursday.

In light of current events, especially with the Evangelical Right's tendency to endorse participation in any conflict they think has eschatological consequences, it's a good time to bring out this song.
