The only thing that will stop Trump is a grassroots movement using diverse tactics.

(not just protests! We need boycotts, strikes, slowdowns, guerrilla art, disruptions, gumming the works from the inside, etc) from a cross-section of society.

It’s on us.

DOOMERISM IS CRINGE
If you study the successful rebellions and resistance and civil rights movements of the past, you will note that “people who spend their time publicly bumming out everyone around them by emphasizing how totally fucked everything is” do not play a central role, or indeed, any role at all

I continue to believe that in times like these, we all share a collective duty NOT to splatter our demotivating feelings of doom and despair all over everybody else in public.

I don’t care if it makes YOU feel better. This isn’t about YOU.

Deal with those feelings outside of public venues.
anyway I’m going out to protest this weekend because we haven’t been beaten yet, and I suggest you do the same

it’ll make you feel better than reading an endless stream of posts about how we’re all doomed and we might as well offer ourselves up to be processed into slurry for the MAGA AI mines now

Oh no big deal 😌💕

“Omer’s enthralling debut epic fantasy starts with a bang and never slows… epic battles and juicy political machinations keep the pages turning, and Omer’s Southwest Asian–inflected worldbuilding fascinates. Readers will be eager for more." -Publisher’s Weekly
There are two kinds of authors:

1) writes idealized self-inserts

2) gives their MC one or two of their worst personality traits, amplifies them x1000, then spends an entire book roasting them for it

also the pipeline from 1 to 2 is real

If you can put in money, put in money.

If you can put in time, put in time.

If you can put in support, put in support.

We can all contribute; it doesn't have to look the same.
one thing that stood out to me reading the book was just how much of a huge judgy bitch Lomelli/Lawrence is. He has an opinion about every single person at the conclave and does not hold back. I love him.
I’m also totally normal about this movie and am living for this thread
okay this made me laugh pretty hard
Oh hey! The first chapter from WEARING THE LION is now free to read on Reactor! Do you need some divine shenanigans in your day?
“'Good news, Heaven,' announces my dipshit husband. 'I’ve made a new king of the mortals.'"

So begins @wiswell.bsky.social's absurd, irreverent take on the story of Hercules. We're charmed to reveal an excerpt from his new novel Wearing the Lion!

this book is like "yeah Catholicism has a great aesthetic, but you know what it's missing? arthropods"
I've been very lucky in a lot of ways, to be clear, and I still cannot imagine the lives some of these people are living. The disconnect is vast.
the number of times I've googled a successful author and found out they come from ridiculous wealth is way too high. even anecdotally, I've met so many writers with upper class backgrounds, trust funds, expensive elite degrees, high-earning spouses, no day jobs... it can be enraging.
we DO NOT talk enough about this and we NEED to
The reason there's no working class representation in publishing is because publishing and writing currently pay so badly only people who are already financially stable can afford to do it.
The problem is always, always money.
My problem with things like these is that working-class writing ends up being literary stories about how dreary it is being working class. They're not interested in examining the working class through the lens of fantasy, for example.
