Give to your local food bank. Build mutual aid wherever and however you can. If we’re going to make something better it’s going to depend on reinvigorating a sense of interconnectedness.

We’re all in this together and the fight depends on recognizing that.

Yeah! Me, too!
You know, I’m actually pretty upset that the leader of my country has no regard for the laws that are supposed to protect my rights, my free speech, and my tax dollars, that he seems disinclined to ever cede any power, and that he regularly insults and demeans half the country, including me.

A reminder that if violent crime in Seattle was not currently dropping, militarizing our streets would still be inappropriate and a bad idea.
Washington state does not need or want the president to militarize our streets.

Violent crime in Seattle and across Washington state is dropping.

We live in a country where the government honors insurrectionists who sacked the Capitol, and defines peaceful protest, even before it occurs, to be terrorism.
They know their position is weak, they know they are unpopular, which is why they are seeking to stamp out dissent.
Mike Johnson: "We're so angry about it. I mean, I'm a very patient guy, but I've had it with these people. The theory we have right now -- they have a hate America rally that's scheduled for October 18 on the National Mall. It's the pro-Hamas wing and antifa people ... "

They are not planning "a violent crackdown" on 10.18. What they are doing is sending a signal to their shock troops to try to cause havoc. But those shock troops will be vastly outnumbered. Go out and protest freely. Do not be cowed.

Critical to understand this.

„Miller plainly believes there’s a latent majority out in the country that can be sleepwalked into authoritarianism.“
JB Pritzker and Gavin Newsom are doing something new and important: They understand Stephen Miller's theory of fascist power politics, and they've developed a theory on how to combat it. More Dems need to reckon with Miller's understanding of the moment.

New from me:

Inside Stephen Miller’s Secret Plan to Normalize Trump’s Dictator Rule
He wants to supercharge searing civil tensions to get low-information voters to embrace their inner authoritarian. Exactly two Democrats appear to fully grasp this.

Food must be taken seriously as an environmental problem.

It uses ~38% of Earth’s land, drives ~70% of water use, and emits ~22-34% of greenhouse gas pollution globally.

And beef and dairy alone drive a huge proportion of this.

But there are solutions. Lots of them.

It costs a lot less to house people.

100% this 🧵
I don't know if Trump is dying. He certainly seems like he's literally falling apart.

What I do know is that whether he lives or not, we have to form together a democratic movement that fights fascism while coalescing around a plan to solve the problems that got him elected in the first place.

A major obstacle for folks attempting to defend democracy is that a perfectly accurate description of what Trump is attempting sounds like hysterical conspiracy theorizing to a lot of people. We default to “c’mon, that can’t happen here”—which is exactly why it can.

7. As long as the press looks away from Trump’s dementia, he will never seem demented. & they will continue to look away. They are incentivized to. They need attention. Trump brings it, especially when his statements are insane. As long as they do that, his insanity will seem like strength.
