Retired Nurse. Collector of rocks after studying with OU. Like to walk alone in remote places. Do knitting, sewing, embroidery, tapestry, watercolours. Read voraciously. Bit of a petrol head. My garden is my bit of paradise. Lived in France 15yrs, glorious
Went to bed early, woke with an awful coughing fit and have pulled a muscle now in the right armpit. I had thought it was all easing off, but it's still lingering and catching me out. Merde.

Had a bit of a telling off from Nurse Practitioner at Eye Clinic...wouldn't do injections because of my suspected chest infection and risk to eyes. Told me I MUST see GP and get abx asap so's it's all clear for new appt 17th. Left eye mended tho! Right eye almost mended, so that's not super urgent.

I suspect a probable major stumbling block to UK moving more quickly towards EU is the failure over at least a decade to deal with the "Russian problem" inside politics and the press. If EU intend to tighten up on rules re members dealing with internal corruption, then UK has a big job to do.

Another thing I've noticed is those cartoonists who do sci-fi/fantasy stuff have a strange/worrying tendency to depict females with overly large tits, extremely skimpy clothes, almost non-existent knickers, big thighs, very long hair. Not to mention making vast majority of them look like children.

What I've noticed this past few days is the sudden appearance of lots of people (mainly men) talking about and posting about their running, together with their stats. Has the whole cohort of male runners suddenly de-camped from elsewhere to here? It seems odd.

Another snot-filled night coughing but not being able to get rid of clags. About 3hrs sleep so a nap this afternoon. Eye clinic later, doubtless injections to endure, more misery. I have to believe that soon I'll at least be able to walk around the house without becoming panicky with breathlessness.

I like sneezing...I let rip full bore no holds barred. It's gratifying and dramatic. It definately helps clearing resistant clag.

One lesson in life. If you've dropped a bollock, in your private or professional life, apologise and try not to repeat it.
A lesson seemingly not shared by the media pundits and commentators regarding Rachel Reeves.

Actually a fan of this change to the justice system now.

Magistrates already handle 90% of criminal cases and only 3% go before a jury.

This is essentially a doubling of the sentencing powers for magistrates from 1 year to 2 years.

Given the emergency, this seems reasonable.

Jury trials scrapped for crimes with sentences of less than three years
The reforms are being brought in to tackle unprecedented delays in the Crown Court.

Success! 2hr nap completed. Didn't really know what time nor day it was when I woke up but barky dog was, yes, barking. Not much else is going to be accomplished off the list today except maybe write some cards and short notes.

Short foray into town on the bus to collect 2 lovely prints I've had framed. They wouldn't fit in my wheelie bag so had to get a taxi back. Nearly overcome with breathlessness walking short distance to get in taxi. Feeling a bit shocked and concerned for appt at eye clinic tomorrow. Feel debilitated

Linus Torvalds (an actual genius) unknowingly drags Musk on the LTT podcast. 🤣

He created two major pillars of modern computing: Linux and Git. Every tech company relies on them. All the servers in the world run #linux. He’s the kind genius Musk has spent years trying to be without ever matching.

Contemplating the quantities of gunk I've coughed up off my chest (as you do if you're a retired nurse), I'm both shocked, amazed and concerned for my future. Amazed that I've managed to cough it all up and concerned that in my very old age I may no longer be able to do that, and what'll happen then
December 2, 2025 at 7:54 AM
Awoke coughing but at least I did have 3hrs uninterrupted sleep and hopefully will get some more in a bit. Psychological relief of a productive cough can't be underestimated...at least stuff's not just sitting there festering.

Keir Starmer says that "wild promises were made" about Brexit.
