Love this Parrot Mushroom's cap! The transparent margins and emerald green color are so cool!

This is a close-up view of a beautiful, glassy-looking mushroom cap. The stipe leading up to the cap is shiny and yellow. The cap is a beautiful shade of soft green. The edges of the cap are transparent. The cap is slightly closed and conical in shape and is not flared out like a typical mushroom cap.

My best yet I think. Should burn well.
Photo of a small handsewn doll in a brown shiny suit with black buttons, black pointy shoes, white shirt and thin black tie ressembling Stephen Miller.

The intensity of feeling there is palpable, very well put in so few words!

It's putting them into Viz land imo...good for a laugh.

We identified 6 core components of vulnerability:

Is a body established in law?

Who appoints its leadership?

Is a body directly accountable to parliament?

Who sets its priorities?

Who controls its funding?

Is it free to publish without ministerial say-so?

E.g. The Met Office is the nation’s weather service AND a global climate change research centre. It is highly vulnerable.

Ministers fund its research, influence its priorities, and appoint its leaders. With no statutory basis, its priorities and funding could be changed with little oversight. 5/11

Darlington nurses reported to Nursing and Midwifery Council for speaking out over NHS Policy that forces them to undress in front of a man. The 4 complaints from the public include accusations of ‘transphobia’, demands that they be struck off and even a report to police for alleged ‘hate crime’.

Riot Women is a new feminist BBC drama about 'the resilience of women who refuse to be silenced by age or expectation', after they form a punk-rock band. As it's the BBC, one of the main actresses is Macy Seelochan who, until recently, was an actor called Jacob Seelochan. So unnecessary.

I wonder what it says about the Duckworth-Lewis situation?

Damn, missed a trick there!

They can try as long as they want, but you're not comparing like with like...the UK simply isn't religious like the US and we also have a very strong tradition of women defending women's rights.

During my video call with my French friend I was trying to explain Bonfire Night to her, the concept of a "guy" and why we still celebrate it. She remembered my little parties I held where I combined Halloween and Bonfire Night into one event, so that muddled things somewhat. She liked the dolls.

I just about followed that...and yes it's quite geeky but thank goodness for geeks!

Important new research from UCL (@chrischirp.bsky.social @martinmckee.bsky.social). It explores both how greater politicisation of scientific agencies might come about and why it matters. Comparative international research forcefully illustrates the stakes involved. This is well worth your time.

🧵🚨

The UK’s independent scientific bodies are highly vulnerable to politicisation - over the past 5 months I've been working with @martinmckee.bsky.social to map out their vulnerabilities and it's not good news.

Today our report is published!

UK’s arm’s length public bodies are highly vulnerable to politicisation
Seven in ten Britons say it is important for top scientific institutions to be independent in exclusive new polling.

I think what they haven't taken into account (and it's a good thing) is that the UK isn't religious in the same way as the US, where the "right to life"/anti abortion campaign rode on the back of religion.

Indeed. Only some pop stars can achieve overnight worldwide success with one lucky song...for everything else it's hard graft, tiny steps, careful consideration of multiple factors and waiting for the public to realise the benefits. Or Chelsea flower show gardens v. real gardening.

"Tax the rich", "Just stop oil" and "Rejoin EU" all fail to recognise the details, difficulties and impossibilities of instant action, but hey, let's chant them anyway yah?

I know. I was alluding to the general observable stance of the press in general towards Farage and their reluctance to probe the Russian donors/connections.

Churchill "crossed the floor" several times during his political career, including standing as an independent.

Nothing, but nothing, shouts "lazy PR takes advantage of lazy journalist" like demanding something be taught in schools.

Bonus lazy-points to this example for ignoring the fact that it's already in the KS1 national curriculum.
