One editing trick I learned was to search for 'that' in my draft: it can often be deleted, and rewriting the other places makes my sentences stronger. (Amazing how many times the word shows up.) Today, I learned 'look' is another of my weasel words that I over use.

I remember a coworker gave me all four Dan Simmons’ Hyperion Cantos books and those were peak scifi for me, I would have never picked them up on my own but they’re such an inspiration to everything I write. ✍️ the concepts and works are so rich. I need to read them again~

okay okay I’ll admit I haven’t 100% read two of the books but I’m getting there I promise! But….I will say for 2025 these are by far my most favorite! 5/5 on these three authors!

Querying is a slow, anxious process. Don't make it worse by stopping work. Start something new. Have fun with it. At worst, having a new project will take the sting out of rejection. At best, you'll have a second half-finished book when your first is accepted.

Well I did it.
As of this morning, the first draft of my second novel is complete, right at 67000 words, though I suspect revisions will bulk that up a bit.
My reward is I get to spend some time outlining my third novel~

I went through over a decade of learning and mistakes and mastery of one skill (video editing) until I became an expert in my niche.
Now im starting from scratch for writing. It’s different, faster in some ways, more grueling in others. I imagine it’s like learning your third language~

Travel with 48 hours of no sleep is a unique experience. liminal and dreamlike. My body keeps micro sleeping anytime I’m not totally locked in. I have made it to my gate half by instinct and the other half I’ve forgotten.
