#MurderByMemory is a tongue in cheek Sherlockian (very gay) cozy murder mystery. A novella I started and finished in one sitting.

Pros
Delightful cozy and light
Reminiscent of Christie’s Poirot
Voicey lead

Cons
one-dimensional characters
Thin worldbuilding
Twists feel underdeveloped

#TheCollapsingEmpire by @scalzi.com is a bonafide good ol’ space opera. It’s snarky and yet serious. Expansive and yet always intimate in its conflict.

Pros
High octane fast read
Colorful characters
Unique premise
Those damned nohamapetans!

Cons
Exceedingly ‘soft’ science

#Orbital is a literary scifi, the first of that genre I’ve laid eyes on, a love letter to the international space station and the endeavor of human spaceflight

Pros
Beautiful prose
Breathtaking description
Unparalleled depth of research

Cons
Plotless and a little directionless

#Maelstrom The sequel to the insane book Starfish, never as good as the original but a complex exploration of the end of the world

Pros
Taking the fight to the surface
Subverting ideas of the first book

Cons
Not as haunting or vibey as the first one

#TheMinistryOfTime Story about cultural disconnect of being torn out of your time. I had so much fun with this one, I want a sequel

pros
Realistic depth of character
Complex intricate plotting
Great twists

Cons
The promise of the premise is sort of undermined by the big midpoint twist

One of the best in the grand tour, although it’s more about Saturn and O’Neill cylinders than it is about Titan

Pros
Our favorite characters, Dr Cardenas and Pancho Lane
Political intrigue
Saturns rings! 🪐

Cons
Literally the entire Titan subplot

#BlackSun A complex high fantasy with not a hint of western myth driving it

Pros
Fun cast of unique characters
Deep worldbuilding

The pacing (mostly flashbacks)
First in a two parter

Pros
The audiobook is read by famous actors and the author himself
Deep analysis of famous works

Cons
I am not a fan of some of Chekov or Tolstoy’s writing

Wow between traveling in Vietnam and the end of the election cycle rush I forgot to post my October Books 📚!

Actually reached my goal of 72 books for the year last month. Some exceptionally good ones in this collection. 🧵

Look at that 👀 I’ve hit another milestone in followers and the holidays are approaching, a perfect time to hock my cute & cozy birb novella! It’s like 100 pages long, not a huge lift.📚

It’s literally as cheap as I can get it, i make like 1¢. Available in ebook, audio, & paperback!

Travel with 48 hours of no sleep is a unique experience. liminal and dreamlike. My body keeps micro sleeping anytime I’m not totally locked in. I have made it to my gate half by instinct and the other half I’ve forgotten.

Listening to the audiobook of The First Five Pages by Lukeman and had to stop and play it back to capture this quote in my notes app. it is such a great way to judge when you are ready to start that new draft.

Listened to this during an especially busy season in DC and it was life changing! Excellent book to combat the grind and reasses your work ethic and priorities! And a fun read.

#TheCalculatingStars went into this thinking it was decades of space travel like Seveneves, but found it was a far more modest journey~

Pros
The detail! The accuracy! It’s rich in precise alternate history

Cons
A dearth of unremarkable domesticity without literary nuance to keep it interesting
