Trump's approval ratings are tanking. He's flailing on the economy. Epstein haunts him. Republicans are beginning to revolt against him.

He's not all powerful.

A tyrant can exercise tyranny only insofar as the objects of his tyranny continue to allow it.

Remember this.

When people say the Fed is “goosing the economy” after this week's cut, that’s backwards. After years of slamming the brakes to fight inflation, they’re now just lifting their foot. Less restrictive is not the same as pedal-to-the-metal stimulus.

I'm late to this...but encourage you to take the time to read this, Ed's latest. It's pretty timely (and if possible should be read by FT readers in conjunction with today's iteration of his "Swamp Notes" column.)

Trump’s ambassador to the EU is accidentally—and unwittingly—saying the US economy is losing ground to the EU, even if he doesn’t seem to realise it.

By comparing the wrong GDP metrics, Andrew Puzder is arguing the EU is currently trouncing the US. And it’s all because of Trump!

Let me explain🧵

In Washington DC — or in pretty much every other Republican dominated state — the threats might have worked, because fear is a powerful weapon, and political courage is vanishingly rare.

But in Indiana, it backfired royally. Spectacularly. Decisively.

Right-wing GOPers will unite with Democrats when their interests converge. Indiana GOP legislators are aware how Democrats are overperforming in solidly pro-Trump districts and don't want to gerrymander their "safe" districts into somewhat less safe districts. Good for them, but not Mandela-level.
