It’s #Chemistree season! Here’s one I made back in 2016. The use of an upside-down pear-shaped flask as a tree topper was, in retrospect, an unfortunate choice…

Today's star of the show for Day 15 of our advent calendar is the most medieval of medieval things.

Yes our Evidence Chest. Bought second hand in 1488 this oak chest kept all the important documents belonging to the Merchant Adventurers.

That's 668 years of history... 🤯

We asked our teams to share some of the sad* Christmas decorations in the collections they help care for.

*Note: Not all are sad. Some are ever so slightly odd and all are weirdly wonderful.

Did you know..?

One of Norwich Cathedral's greatest treasures, the Despenser Reredos, is the only surviving medieval English altarpiece with scenes from Christ’s Passion.

Until 1847 it was the underside of a table, saving it from destruction over the years.

Not many people need a cherry-picker to decorate their Christmas tree, but the team at Cragside do.

Their tree stands an incredible 44.7 metres tall - more than twice the height of the Angel of the North. And... it's a record breaker.

Yes, it's eager. Yes, it's censorious. But it has the very considerable advantage of not being fascist.

ICYMI, why the ‘rubbish mountain’ will likely be there for years.
My latest: in which I visit Oxfordshire's 'Rubbish Mountain', buy a Twirl in the country's most violent Sainsbury's, and explore the absolutely dismal response of the Environment Agency.

A gigantic pile of rubbish was dumped in a field in Oxfordshire. The response sums up everything wrong with British bureaucracy.
