A moment in #StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds Season 3 is a great example of how #StrangeNewWorlds both honors the universe's past and defines modern #StarTrek for the future.

There are expectations viewers have when it comes to war stories, but one episode of HBO's #BandOfBrothers authentically captures parts of the experience no film or show did before, and it changed things for the better.

In film and television, adaptations of comics, video games, and books are all the rage. #Reacher on #PrimeVideo is an example of how they can respect the source material and still make it fresh and original.

The #StarTrek fans who watched the great #WonderMan series may have noticed a subtle 'crossover' between the #MCU film-within-the-series and #StarTrekTOS.

The new #WonderMan series surprised #MCU fans in a lot of ways, but the finale episode breaks a #MarvelStudios tradition and is all the better for it. Check out why I think it's a positive step for the future of these stories.

If you've seen the fantastic new #WonderMan series, you know it doesn't seem to share much connection to the larger #MCU. Only, I think it says something about the next #MarvelStudios phase than people seem to realize. I explain at the link below:

Addendum based on some surprising responses I got on Threads: Avery Brooks is still retired.

Obviously, Trump is a dangerous nightmare, but he's also pure unstrategic id. This fucking guy is the one who worries me, because he has equally awful beliefs while being devoid of integrity, but he's NOT stupid and far more effective at lying and making it sound like sense to low-info folks.

Hey #StarTrek fans, I know some of us may disagree about #StarTrekStarfleetAcademy or other modern shows. And it's valid to not like something personally for any reason. That said, I URGE everyone to watch this week's #StarfleetAcademy, because it's going to be BIG. Here's a hint

Also, I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT believe people are out here astroturfing this movie. IDGAF about the box office gross, I want to know how many tickets were taken/scanned at the door.

Yeah, let me tell you something: we are NEVER forgetting about this.
I think a $46 million opening for a $90 million movie is better than an $8 million opening for a $40 million movie, and yet

i love a free country, where the president's secret police can shoot out the windows of random citizens with impunity
And ICE shot out the windows of apartments nearby. They used this munition to do it. They also shot people with this.

Former Texas Lege reporter here. A Dem hasn't held this seat since 1990. Tarrant is the safest of red suburban counties. There is no way the TX and national GOP aren't in panic mode right now.
JUST IN: Democrats flip a red seat in the Texas Senate.

Taylor Rehmet wins against Leigh Wambsganss, a conservative activist who helped lead right-wing efforts to take over TX school boards.

With all early vote, and 95% of precincts, in, Dem up 57/43.

Trump won this seat by 17% in Tarrant County.

Anyway, I'm going to continue to vote for imperfect candidates NOT trying to dismantle American democracy or cheering about the harm they cause people. But, I don't have to feed red meat to an ideological audience by being a firebrand serving them what they want to hear instead of what they need to.
February 1, 2026 at 9:14 AM
Of course, there is the ideological media angle fucking things up. Because the "left" types also attack the Democrats more than the GOP. It's not that they don't have a Fox News, they don't have a Roger Ailes. He was a monster in many ways, but that MF drove the political discourse for both sides.
February 1, 2026 at 9:14 AM
This is, of course, marketing. That said, the playbook for how to a move a party's policy priorities has been open on the right for about 30 years. You can push them and be a thorn in their side or whatever, but that won't mean a damn thing if you don't also show up to win them a general election.
The "vote Blue no matter who" crowd and "shut up and don't complain about the Democrats!" folks are really, really annoyed with me.

Great.

I look forward to being a thorn in your side for years to come, pushing Dems to be more bold, progressive fighters for the people.

You cannot reform this apparatus which kills people no matter which party is in charge

I think some of that is my colleagues in criticism's fault. They use objective terms for subjective work, i.e. "bad" or "best," et al. They also judge movies/shows for what they AREN'T rather than what they ARE. Also, the Outrage Grifters with poor media literacy stoking fan entitlement for cash.
February 1, 2026 at 9:03 AM
I think they also object to the idea a beloved storytelling universe or character can surprise them and that's fucking good! Did I want to see an older Luke Skywalker fucking shit with a lightsaber in TLJ? You're goddamn right. But the movie didn't get its story "wrong," it told a different one.
February 1, 2026 at 8:59 AM
To clarify: If any of these ideas ever progress beyond that stage, they change considerably, of course. That's the real fun of stealing from things that disappointed you, because you get so into your own idea it stops being an imitation of that original thing. (If the Muses are kind, that is.)
