It's not just that the White House won't commemorate World AIDS Day.

It's that Trump has needlessly decimated lifesaving HIV/AIDS research. It's that his administration has cut off resources to help eradicate this disease around the world.

Hurting people and helping no one.

Today is worlds AIDS day shame on the Trump administration 💔 of not recognizing today. So many people lost the fight many years ago and some are still here fighting today and that lived during the uprise of the epidemic 40+ years ago 🕯️ and even today we will continue to fight and also educate ❤️.

All of the lives lost and Trump can't bring himself to commemorate World AIDS Day. In fact, he's going out of his way to do great harm to LGBTQ people and AIDS research. So many deaths due to things he's done in many areas. It's evil. There's no decency in him. Who admires and supports that?

This even includes countries like Botswana, which I visited in November. The government there has invested in the country's HIV response and with incredible results. But cuts by Trump have widened emerging gaps and put the entire response in jeopardy: theforsaken.substack.com/p/a-differen...

Spending some time today thinking about all of the people that we lost to AIDS, and I am always drawn to this incredibly frank (and imo extremely accurate) view of precisely what we lost creatively due to AIDS: here is the magnificent Fran Lebowitz www.instagram.com/reel/C3vR9OL...

PSA for World AIDS Day:

If you take or need PrEP and don’t have insurance, Gilead has an assistance program where you can get them to send it to you for free. Still need a prescription I believe.

RT: I remember in elementary school — third grade I think — we took a field trip to see an AIDS quilt and learned about AIDS and the pain of it.

We need to continue to expose our children to basic humanity.

I worked with Act Up in Minneapolis in the 80s and 90s. Reagan took 5+ years before he even mentioned the word.

Conservatives didn't want to fund research for an STD they were less likely to get from their extra-marital affairs. They already had cures for their STDs.

My wife has been HIV+ for 34 years. She’s alive today b/c work of activists who destigmatized the virus, pushed medical science to adapt & find ways to treat it, & advocated for gov health programs that helped fund her care. The current U.S. regime may want to go back in time, but we won’t let them.

Today is World AIDS Day, but the US is not participating.
The Trump administration, like the Reagan administration, doesn't give a damn about PWAs in the US or elsewhere.
AIDS killed approx 44 million people.
40 million are currently living with HIV.

For the first time since 1988 the U.S. government is not officially commemorating World AIDS Day. So, I'm posting a few photos from a 2015 exhibition at the Tacoma Art Museum. Hard to pick just one. Here is an Altar Piece by Keith Haring, his last before his death. #WorldAIDSDay
