They did. Every Friday for nearly 4 years. Many nights, some friends and family would come over when they guy stopped by to get their rentals at the same time.

A lot of people reminisce about Blockbuster back then. But the Mom & Pop rental shops were innovative as hell then.
I think the NES days were also when handicapping good players began to pop up. Every friends group had the rule that no one could pick the Raiders in Tecmo Bowl, or you could only have 1 fat guy in Ice Hockey.
Back then, I knew when games were great. But didn't always comprehend whether a game was bad or not (with some exceptions). It was just a new game I would play until I was done. And I'd love every second of it.
Game rentals really blew up during this time. As a kid, I signed up for a rental service (different times then) that would come to your house with bins of games & VHS tapes. You could rent a game for $5 a week. I found a ton of good games thru them.
The NES turns 40 today. My family got the Action Set. I quickly became obsessed with the system. There really was nothing like that craze in my friends group. My Dad hid his own obsession, waiting until we were asleep & gaming until 1-2 AM, especially after we got Legend of Zelda. Cont...
For me they're:

John Carpenter's The Thing
House (1985)
Lucio Fulci's Zombie
Trick or Treat (1986)
Movie #69 Traumatika (2025)
An ancient demon terrorizes a family.

The 1st 40 or so minutes are excellent. It falters a bit after that. Shifting tones, which didn't help. The demon makeup effect isn't great when fully shown. But overall I still enjoyed it thanks to that strong start.
Movie #68 Kill Command (2016)
A military training exercise against machines goes horribly wrong.

A surprisingly good sci-fi horror film, leaning more sci-fi. Crap poster almost made me skip it. The production & effects are really strong, with a mix of Terminator & a bit of Predator. I liked it.
Nice! Sucks about the bent flap on the Man At Arms tho.
I feel like if I had seen it when it came out, I'd probably have liked it more. The cast was very good.
I don't know what was grosser, the end creature or the guy mashing up the raw hamburger meat.
Movie #67 The Beast Within (1982)

Scratching another lower tier 80s flick off the list. Solid for a VHS era flick. They go a little overboard on the bladder gore effects. always fun to see Ronny Cox in a genre film.
Movie #66 House of the Devil (2009)

Finally crossing this one off the list. Ti West movies have never really been my thing. This one was ok. Loved the way it was filmed, lots of harsh shadows & film grain. Too slow for me, predictable, & an ending that I've seen a bunch in other satanic movies.

New video! Here is my in-depth review of the AYN Thor. youtu.be/DeGFRB0Mor8
There were some great zingers in there too. My favorite was this:

What's your name, officer?

It's Strange, Sir.

I don't care how fucking strange it is.

No Sir, it's officer Strange.
Movie #65 The Runestone (1991)
The Norse great wolf Fenrir returns, causing chaos that could bring about Ragnarok.

Thanks to @meistershake.bsky.social for this one. A fun mid-80s style monster movie. Genuinely funny in parts, a little silly, with a cool looking monster & some clever setups.
Movie #64 The Vigil (2019)
A man sitting watch over a recently passed community member encounters a dark evil.

Enjoyed this one. Interesting & original. They do a good job of explaining the practice of being a Shomer. Some good creepy moments.
I agree. They went with a soft reboot that doesn't really address past events much. And apparently couldn't find a spot for Tron or even Alan.

Movie #63 Odd Thomas (2013)
A young man with clairvoyant abilities faces a darkness like never before.

Wow! I cannot believe I put this off for so long. The poster, synopsis & even trailers really didn't sell how good this was. Great cast, very heartfelt. Yelchin really was able to do any genre.
