On Monday I braced for this most recent round of JPL layoffs by looking around my office for what I cared about most to take it home in case I never got to return. I grabbed just one thing - the beautiful bowl by @amyraehill.bsky.social inspired by the false color postcard I took with Curiosity.
A circular bowl decorated with a landscape scene. The inner surface of the bowl is painted to resemble a landscape with mountains. The top portion is a bright, clear blue sky transitioning into a warm yellow-gold sun. The lower portion depicts dark, rugged terrain. The bowl is sitting on a dark surface with a pattern of bright, colorful, geometric dots and lines.

Drew Struzan posters you might not see others post today... rest in peace, king.
people keep telling me america has no culture since i left the country and i think that comes from a place of ignorance considering people who came from other countries and indigenous people all have their own. Every country on earth has culture. i have my issues with the us but that's just not true
i actually do think comic books count as american culture because nobody has any problems calling anime and manga "japanese culture". just because you don't like superheroes doesn't mean it isn't an art form with an interesting history considering it's more or less only a hundred years old
that sounds like it would be extremely weird to use

if i just keep drawing for a little while longer i'll finally be able to keep drawing
BUT IT'S FINE GUYS SOOO DON'T WORRY
every possible thing has gone wrong in this past week but i'm doing better now and it's gonna be fine. i dropped my laptop on the floor and the screen looked like a disco ball before it restarted itself and my life flashed before my eyes
Recently found out that Jack Kirby was in one episode of The Incredible Hulk in the 70s as a police sketch artist. I drew him from that

Never forget that Norman Rockwell, debatably the most famous American artist to ever put brush to canvas, was not afraid to show the ugliness along with the good. Having his work/reputation sanitized and trimmed into marketable nostalgia is about American as it gets.
I'm starting to think I might have more luck doing paintings and selling them locally than trying to do digital work and finding jobs in comics lol

Looked at an Alan Moore script for the first time.

I will never complain about working with anyone else’s script ever again.

just want to say for don't underestimate the power of a simple $5 a month subscription to artists you want to support

it may seem insignificant but to put it into perspective:

if just 1/4 of my current follow count offered $5 I wouldn't have to worry about rent and focus more on art production
I want to build a dependable passive income for myself so I can have more time in my weekly schedule to finish personal projects... if you feel inclined to support with a monthly tip, please check out my ko-fi!

it doubles as my WIP/work diary, as well as early access to stuff

Weird how this keeps happening.
Ireland just released a report showing the huge success of the unconditional basic income it provided to artists. Each $1 spent led to society gaining $1.39. Artists' earned incomes went up more than their side job incomes fell. And they were happier and used less welfare

www.gov.ie/en/departmen...
For every €1 of public money invested in the pilot, society received €1.39 in return
The net cost of the BIA pilot went from €105m to under €72m due to tax generated and savings on social welfare payments It also finds that recipients’ arts-related income increased by over €500 per month on average, while their income from non-arts work decreased by around €280. Dependence on social protection declined, with recipients receiving €100 less per month on average, and 38 percentage points less likely to receive Jobseeker’s payments.
I thought the paper was really interesting though
