To be clear:

LA County has declared a state of emergency BECAUSE OF the federal government.

The Feds, LA County is (correctly) saying, have CAUSED the emergency.

This is a striking political moment of internal collapse. Local govts feeling compelled to protect their ppl from … their own govt.

Unfortunately that would only be a good thing if she was a white woman.

(Joke about white women and dogs, not weird racial shit)

normalized being unobtrusive and useful for society to allow your existence at a basal level.

It is by normalizing our "weird" traits across many different fields, that we can gain a more equal society. Instead of pushing queers into a few niche silent jobs, they should be everywhere.

If instead it was a teacher, or well credited scientist, or news anchor even, who was revealed to be these things; they would be pressured out of their position. People would reject the idea of them, because they are public facing.

Queer folk in IT has not normalized being queer, but rather

Yet instead we celebrate when he becomes useful; rather than scorning the system that required normality or usefulness for acceptance.

Our Queer (and yes the Furry too) are expected to be useful and in turn their "weirdness" is allowed to exist at a certain level.

Rudolf is unable to hide his difference, and is exiled from general society for years. Rudolf is not allowed to live a proper life because he is different. It is only once he becomes useful for the societal need that he is accepted.

It is a societal failing that he is rejected in the first place.

Its paying you to be invisible. Stay quiet in the backroom where no one can see or hear you; and will make sure you are taken care of. Its reductive; you can only be allowed to exist so long as your unobtrusive to the normative and remain useful.

Its the concept of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Honestly I think the "Queer Furry's keep the IT world functioning" stereotype / joke, is pretty damn harmful. A lot of those are backend jobs where no one sees you except a handful of your peers and maybe a manager type. Your paid decent enough to live your life; but without being seen.

Just came out of PRINCE FAGGOT and it's a really excellent play about race and class and desire and privilege and the lived experience of marginalization and even a little bit about kink.

Would highly recommend.

(Even if the rope work looked a little wonky.)
