“#209: Venom

A bright green ink with a gorgeous magenta shimmer.

It’s the perfect ink for fantasizing about throwing your boss into a pit full of vipers, then dropping in a nest of angry hornets.”

I had an excellent time at PAX meeting, hanging out with, and partying with old & new friends!

Picked up some neat stuff, played a cool tree-balancing game & an odd key-deduction game! Did a book signing for @plusoneexp.bsky.social!

A good weekend!

Many folks' final assessment of Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser---the closest thing to a multi-million-dollar larp experience we've ever gotten and one of Disney's highest-ever-rated attractions---came from a 4-hour complaint video about its game app, instantly accepted as sacred dogma.
Whenever I say this, people get Really Mad, but it's true. Same of any other art, too. You have to read the book, watch the film, see the painting, listen to the song, whatever.

I'm sorry, but watching a video about it on YouTube is not enough. You have not experience the art.
"you have not played the game unless you've played the game" is one of my more annoying but unshakable opinions

In stead of sending a link to old threads every time someone uses the term "Dark Ages", I decided to put it all in an article.

Why most historians no longer use the biased misnomer “dark ages”.

Why most historians no longer use the biased misnomer “dark ages”
This is not YET another article on why calling the early middle ages the dark ages is iffy, it’s a list of sources & references. These days most historians no longer use the term “D…

Worth paying attention to: HORSES is a disturbing and compelling work of art.

Steam, the nearest platform to monopoly for PC games, has pre-emptively banned HORSES with a vague and spurious accusation that it features underage characters, despite the game having no such characters or context.
Our upcoming game HORSES was preemptively banned from Steam, with no path to appeal. The game will still launch next week on December 2nd and will be available on EGS, GOG, Humble, and Itch for $4.99. Here is a detailed FAQ covering what happened: horses.wtf/BannedFromSt...

this is such a depressing read. studios are happy to exploit the labour and creativity of women & queer people & poc but then turn around and sacrifice them to a baying mob of bad actors who they believe are their core audience. did we learn no lessons from gamergate?

This looks nifty…
Today is the day to tell a strange story.

The long version we'll tell later, but the short version is this. In an attic, in his late great-uncle's house, @jon.inkle.co found a locked trunk. It took twenty years to open. Last summer he did.

Inside was a wiring diagram, and a stack of books.
