As a Gen X kid obsessed with Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson & Prince who had Jazz and Blues playing all around but was drawn to Funk, we immediately identified with D’Angelo and clocked his influences…

He became OUR version. And now, he is one of the ancestors.

The “knock on wood” metaphor is played, yes, but you set it up well in the opening lines. That, the “key that opened my thighs” line, and one—one—use of “cocky” would have done the job effectively. 2

ICE detained a 30-year-old man in Brookline last week, waiting for hours outside the police station after he was arrested for alleged domestic violence.

It's the third ICE arrest documented here since the start of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.
