Reminds me of how immigration attorneys are now writing “confidential address” in humanitarian visa applications, not to protect the client from their abuser but from the federal govt

To be clear:

LA County has declared a state of emergency BECAUSE OF the federal government.

The Feds, LA County is (correctly) saying, have CAUSED the emergency.

This is a striking political moment of internal collapse. Local govts feeling compelled to protect their ppl from … their own govt.

Neurotypicals need to stop telling autistic kids to carry a blue bucket to justify being nonverbal, or not wearing a costume.

Stop asking kids to carry a literal sign they're different.

If a kid shows up on Halloween, give them candy. No requirements. Period.

1. As some Democrats have run from transgender rights, Zohran Mamdani is showing what so many others have lacked: courage to lead with his values over pandering to focus groups.

The ad is one of the best things I've seen from a politician on transgender people.

Wow, wow, wow. This has always been legally possible but the law has virtually never been enforced — and now this is the SECOND case I've heard of in the last month (first involving a person with a green card) of a noncitizen being charged for failure to carry their papers.

I went to Broadview ICE facility again today. They blocked off 25th, a lot of sheriffs police, local cops& Illinois state police. Around noon, riot police w/ weapons, helmets, zip ties came out. All in black & I cannot figure out what this patch says. The word on the bottom is police. Anybody know?
A patch that says police on the bottom and has a figure with a lance on a white horse above the word police. There are words above the horse image, but I do not know what they are. A cop clad all in black with a helmet and mask on and a gun. On his uniform, there is A patch that says police on the bottom and has a figure with a lance on a white horse above the word police. This is outside the Broadview, Illinois ice facility. One of the cops also has zip ties. Cops clad all in black with helmets and masks on and guns. Their helmets have right Shields over the front. If you're watching the situation in Chicago from afar & want to help, on the off chance you have spare $$, you can give to the Midwest Immigrant Bond Fund, which posts "bond for individuals held in the custody of ICE w ties to IL, IN, KY & WI who cannot afford to pay"

I just took a deep breath and deleted a skeet where I cussed out @padlet.com, but honestly, maybe I should have kept it. This was a great resource, and the folks behind this decision should be ashamed of themselves for what they have chosen to enable.
Padlet removes ‘People over Papers,’ a mapping tool tracking ICE raids
The crowdsourced site was taken down without warning, days after political figures called for its removal. Its creators quickly launched a replacement.

College radio stations are seeing a surge in student interest.

Stations that once struggled to fill airtime are now overflowing with student DJs.

I spoke to 7 college radio stations across the U.S. to understand what is driving the revival:

Bari leading CBS News is v bad in all kinds of ways, but what makes it even more galling is that I know so many fine reporters, editors & critics afraid of being fired, w/ a precarious income at best, out of the field or out of work. In an era where comedians who once whined abut "cancel culture" because "you can't joke about anything anymore" happily perform muzzled in Riyadh and ICE casually shoots journalists in LA and Chicago and assaults others in NYC, it's important to remember Jamal Khashoggi. Great work from Karen
