Genderqueer parent and community college STEP coach. I also wrote Forgotten All-Star: A Biography of Gardner Fox! My next big project is a biography for Jerry Bails, who is often referred to as the father of comic book fandom.

Batman vs the Vampire, a rare for the time two-part story (Detective Comics 31 & 32, 1939, Gardner Fox & Bob Kane with Shelly Moldoff; cover featured on #31 with an iconic cover by Kane).

Bonus: Neal Adams' homage to the Bob Kane cover; Batman #227, Dec 1970.
I’m aware. Check the alt text. 😁

I like this variant not only because it is funny, but also because the appeal to media literacy feels more needed lately.

Gardner Fox & Gil Kane's Ys is one of my favorite conceits in the DC Universe, a world on the opposite side of ours wherein everything is always occurring/reoccurring/has-will-occur, in which we can learn things we will never know in our world, from which, even if we leave, we will have never left.

Wanna to go to a virtual No Kings rally that focuses on healthcare (with a side of "vaccines are good, actually" and "eugenics is bad, actually")?

Hawkgirl 💛💚🪽
One of those old pulps with a little bit of foxing that you find in a stack on the floor of an old used book store. Richard Fowlks did a great job of invoking that with the cover. 📚

Today is the birthday of Ira Schnapp (Oct. 10, 1894-July 24, 1969). A letterer, and ad & logo designer, he refined the Superman logo w/ Superman #6 (1940) & designed logos for the Flash, JLA, Green Lantern, Atom, Hawkman, & more. He also designed house ads & the stamp for the Comics Code Authority.

This is what @cmxcollective.bsky.social mentioned in the last episode about the Silver Age JLA: Gardner Fox was a polymath using both scientific knowledge and history trivia to make stories more interesting. I see this trait in works of other storytellers from Carl Barks to Ishiro Honda and love it

The Comic Arts Festival of Eugene was great! I was super happy to learn that David Walker is a Wolverine and Cyclops shipper. And Chris Roethle's Comics and Poetry Workshop was so much fun! I hope it becomes an annual thing!

Lauren got me the DC Finest The Spectre collection and I'd forgotten how completely insane this is. I love it but it's so nuts. In fact the old Gardner Fox stuff might be crazier than the later stuff.
