Have a plan in place now.
If you are a chair of a department or supervise grad students, it might be important to collaborate with your colleagues on ways to strategize when a "problem essay" comes down the pike. It's one small way of protecting each other.

I'm trying speak with students, parents, educators, and education advocates in (or connected to) these school districts about their experiences for a follow-up to www.newamerica.org/education-po.... Any ideas for me? Second-degree connectors also appreciated!

It's kinda interesting to watch a whole lot of people work to norm around an assessment prompt, feedback mechanism, and a student work sample.

This is the first day of the last month of the semester here in my part of higher ed.
This is the perfect essay to read right now, for inspiration and strength for how we work with students and,
in the best cases,
how we work as people in community.

Thank you, @johannawinant.bsky.social.

How Trump 2.0 upended education research and statistics in one year
This audio is sponsored by SXSW EDU Inauguration Day was a time of hope for the MAGA faithful who watched President Donald Trump take his second oath of office in the Capitol rotunda. But less than a mile away, at the Department of Education, fear and uncertainty reigned. Researchers, contractors and federal staff — the corner of the Education Department that I cover — braced for potentially devastating upheaval. Would the department itself be eliminated, as Trump had promised during the campaign? Would congressionally mandated research and statistical programs move to other agencies?

Still no word from the mods about how I appeal their decision. I'm still confident my post wasn't AI.
Do I love the fact that the moderators of r/teachers removed a post of mine for being AI or do I hate it?

Tim Walz on Meet the Press about Trump calling him "Retarded":
"We have fought, three decades, to get this out of our school. Kids know better than to use it. But look, this is what Donald Trump has done. He's normalized this type of hateful behavior and this type of language."

I remain bemused. So it's still a love/hate situation.

I think a lot about this quote from a VC saying the quiet part out loud. The quote is from Vauhini Vara's article, "How Chatbots and AI Are Already Transforming Kids' Classrooms" at www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

This is an INCREDIBLY in-depth thread about the SS standards revision process in Texas. @drwhit.bsky.social is updating it on the regular and it's worth spending some time with if you're interested in the state's standards revision process. (Thanks @ryanabt.bsky.social for sharing it!)
Good morning! Texas is revising its K-12 social studies standards (TEKS) for 5.5 million kids, & the State Board of Education (SBOE) is meeting today to discuss their progress today. I will be live-tweeting (posting?) about anything that concerns social studies. Follow this thread for updates!
