After I dropped a tubular chime and tried to rehang it for a while, I gave up and called a clock guy. My call went to voicemail. “Do NOT leave a voicemail,” the clock guy said in his outgoing message

For instance, I don’t think I ever noticed before, or would have ever eventually noticed on my own, that the ‘thin-skinned hack’ is on a certain level just a garden-variety fascist, “king for a day,” thinking of his audience as his subjects and exerting his very limited power onstage because he feels alienated and disempowered in his everyday life. Power-tripping on people who aren’t supposed to speak, in other words. And I think Heidecker’s act is probably very ‘true’ in that everyone bombs, some people do get upset, and here is what that looks like: a sputtering dysregulated mess, a tossed microphone, a little tantrum.

On Discord, a chat platform popular with gamers and tech communities, he came across channels dedicated to AI where other single men were exchanging tips about how to prompt ChatGPT to generate effective dating messages. “So, for instance, someone said that if you start a chat with a girl by asking her a list of questions – favourite film, dream holiday, that kind of thing – then paste her answers into ChatGPT, it would craft replies that would make you sound like her perfect match.” It proved effective. “It got me a lot more dates than I was getting before.”
