Hi there, #portfolioday ! I’m an illustrator, graphic designer, and potter who specializes in book illustration (currently illustrating my 5th kids book & working away slowly at a graphic novel) & design/illustration for NGOs & other similar organizations!

A spread from Ghost Water Kiss, a book of short stories I wrote & illustrated, published in 2019. The image is of a surreal underwater scene with colourful seaweeds & corals with a green & mossy mermaid-like creature swimming through it. A spread from Water Water, a picture book I wrote & illustrated (published in 2021). It’s a gouache & watercolour painting that shows a cottage at night with an illuminated window so you can see the living room within. Two ghostly giant fish (a musky & a sturgeon) emerge from the lake in the background & are floating over the cottage. A spread from a report I illustrated and designed for JCRT. It shows the life cycle of a cecropia moth along a lichen-studded branch with paragraphs of text below. A poster I illustrated for a local film festival — drawn in vibrant colours it depicts a crystal mountain nestled within a lichen-y / mossy landscape with a large salamander wrapped around the base of the mountain and a little furry guy at the top telling the text of the poster in a beam of yellow light.

Tyra Banks really is one of our most elite crazy people. Like you need YEARS of hardcore training to be this much of a nutcase

elevated horror: what if you're grieving your loved one TOO MUCH?
folk horror: what if a child's disability could EAT PEOPLE?
supernatural horror: what if your childhood trauma could EAT PEOPLE?
psychological horror: what if your adult trauma could EAT PEOPLE?
body horror: what if your gender dysphoria could EAT PEOPLE?
slasher horror: what if a random guy was trying to kill you, instead of a cop or your boyfriend?
Underglazed some warbler worrybirds today & I’m absolutely thrilled with how they turned out. So excited to clear-glaze & fire these guys!
Eight little bisque-fired clay warblers sit on a steel banding wheel. They’re each painted as a different species of warbler — clockwise from the front left: redstart, yellow, northern parula, Canada, black & white, ovenbird, black throated blue, and in the middle, blackburnian! A higher angle of the birds, showing off their back patterns! Seven birds in a hand is better than…some in a bush?! The birds after their first round of underglaze, before the patterns/details went on. I sponged this layer on for a very smooth finish.
Also, so many home runs in one game?!?!?!??!! Incredible, wish I’d been watching (I was out with a friend) 😭
😂💕😂💕 exactly!!
Looove seeing that Confident Jog 😍
Ha! I was just coming here to also recommend this — it’s a great podcast overall, but the 1933 series is a standout!
It makes it so comfy to wear (& makes it fit beautifully over my giant headphones!!
I have a sweatshirt from Simons that does this (unfortunately got it years ago, but worth checking to see if they still sell this style!). I have tried to photograph it for reference, but uhhh it’s hard to get pictures of a dark green sweatshirt 😅 It’s from their Twik line.

I had the same experience in Mexico City recently: reading signs & etc (also I definitely put a bunch of French interstitial words like et & que by accident as I stumbled through very simple Spanish sentences & nobody seemed to really notice)! Thank you, Romance languages!!
Oh, to be clear not all of T. Kingfisher’s books are horror (but they are all amazing!!). She has a good number of horror/horror-adjacent ones tho.
Also anything by T. Kingfisher! Her books aren’t super scary, but have some great body horror/surreal spooky-times.
Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh (& its sequel) isn’t quite horror, but there’s a good amount of creepiness in them (especially the second one). Great folktale atmosphere!
Timeline cleanse: my mom’s sweet Minou from our thanksgiving visit. As you can see he is tragically unable to ever get comfortable 😂
A grey tabby with a white belly and face lounges on his back against a person’s side/in the crook of their elbow as they sit on a couch. One of his back legs is stretched way out (he stayed like this for 10mins). A close-up of the casual leggie. Yes, this cat is absolutely ridiculous. Later on in this snuggle session — he’s still on his back against my thigh, but now his front legs are up in the air, paws limp and relaxed How to started: a more regular cuddle stretched out against my side

'ANYMALS' puzzle game by Galt Toys ∘ Designed by Ken Garland ∘ Artwork by Daria Gan, 1960s.
I’m so interested to know why! I read & loved the book & the trailer looked gorgeous/promising, but it feels like a difficult text to adapt.

I did this, took like 30 min.
Points I kept hammering: domestic cloud, regulations around copyright and likeness rights, focusing on machine learning with concrete, real world uses (creating new drugs, etc), the damage done by slop, the need to listen to AI experts who are realists, not boosters.

Years ago I went through a phase of putting chicken legs on ... stuff?
Everything I've ever made has always been a bit absurd and self-indulgent.

For example: here is a breakfast radish on legs, which I made of wool and wire.
Photo of an object in front of a plain white background. The object is a soft-sculpture made of wool. It's a breakfast radish in red and white with white roots growing out of the bottom and big leafy dark green leaves growing from the top. It's also in a bird pose and standing on two bright orange chicken legs. It's an odd animal.
I felt the same way! I got the rec off social media somewhere & it was very much sold as ‘heck yeah lesbian vampires sexy times woo!!’ and that was…not what the story ended up being.
I mean, I liked it!! I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
I vaguely remember that, but then the wrap-up had such good stuff that it kind of erased the slog? So uhhh you have that to look forward to (I hope, I haven’t seen it for like 15yrs)!
She’s got such a perfect furious little goblin face!!!!! What a beast!
I recommend just skipping to the very last episode (or the last few? But I think it all makes sense sans season context)— it’s got some good stuff in it!!!!
I made the same joke when I watched this bit of the game!! Glad everyone else noticed the fancy hand moves!!
It’s an honour to have my pottery paired with one of my favourite authors (& I’m SO impatient for my library to get their copies of this book in!!) 💕
My copy of T. Kingfisher’s latest horror novella arrived today, and I remembered to start reading it while the sun‘s out! (My awesome leaf litter critter mug comes from the talented artist @jbbartram.bsky.social and felt like the right choice for today’s coffee.)
A copy of T. kingfisher’s novella What Stalks the Deep sits on a wooden tabletop next to a cup of coffee in a ceramic mug that features neat leaf litter critter designs all around it.
