Which is my way of saying if @mattleone.bsky.social hadn’t asked me to do that Panzer Dragoon RPG oral history for @polygon.com way back (it was in 2018 not 2020, sorry) I wouldn’t have been able to get old pal Katsumi Yokota to do this drawing of Azel for the story, which he later gifted me.

I was able to get some sigs added to that game added later, like dragon designer and current Phantasy Star Online 2 producer, Satoshi Sakai, for example. This one, however, is an illo that was never officially released afaik but which producer Yukio Futatsugi let me make a print of. Rarer than rare.

Like I think SH2R did it pretty decently tbh probably a bit too intense at times but at least you could skip a majority of encounters, and not be caged in. Makes it so…game-y… 😆

It’s annoying because there are definitely good elements to F, I do have some niggles with how some of the writing is conveyed but I know what they’re going for. I just think they either tidy up the combat more, or lessen the amount of encounters in the 2nd half to avoid repetition. So glad I did/

Do I think this could have been a competent game on its own, without the SH branding? Honestly yes. I think the restraints that it put on itself to keep the combat somewhat basic, so it’s faithful to the older titles, yet wanting to be more aggressive/fast paced, was a detriment to itself.
