I hate the word pretentious, but people should be more pretentious. There’s nothing wrong with reading easy stuff, but it shouldn’t be all you read. It should be a little embarrassing to only read books that don’t challenge you.

Any book that goes longer than 300 pages (400 for heavy worldbuilding genres like fantasy, sci-fi, or historical fiction) needs to really earn it. Extremely few books with 600+ pages deserve that many pages.
