Dr. Giggles: Very silly at points and some variable performances but a surprisingly gory comedy horror works well. The villain has legs (could see a franchise) and lots of medical related puns. A touch of Larry Cohen, though broader in style. Fun.

Writing is how poor people, as long as they have something to say that continues to be meaningful, can live forever. Rich people too, obviously, but they rarely have that much of interest to say.

The RTE ad for the film The Paper put the spoiler newspaper headline central to the film right at the end of the ad.

Introduce yourself using a food you refuse to eat, a film you’ll never watch again, a song you can’t stand

Food: Fucking celery (will grudgingly allow in a Bloody Mary)

Film: About Time. Curtis should be in The Hague

Song: We Didn't Start the Fire. See above re The Hague

“Introduce yourself using only one food you refuse to eat, one movie you’ll never watch again, and one song you can’t stand”

Food: cucumber, however if you pickle it I'll eat em all day

Film: Jacob's Ladder, avoided it for years then was tricked into seeing it

Song: the whole of the fucking moon

Courgette - cannot stomach the texture, like eating rotten cucumber

Is Threads a film?

“Clint Eastwood” - to you the flimsy Steve tweet is a funny joke, to me it’s a war crime indictment

Sticking with Shirley Jackson, We Have Always Lived in the Castle is astonishing.

A great bit from Al Pacino’s autobiography when Diane Keaton finds out he’s broke.
Extract from page 248 of Al Pacino’s 2024 autobiography where Diane Keaton goes to speak with his entertainment lawyer. Extract from page 249 of Al Pacino’s 2024 autobiography where Diane Keaton goes to speak with his entertainment lawyer.

Between this, The Vanishing and Looking for Mr. Goodbar, this has been a fucking intense run.

Bug: Two brilliant performances (Judd is unbelievable) and expertly structured levels of paranoia and tension elevate this frightening film. Friedkin's brilliance here is his investment in a love story that makes what follows absolutely unbearable. That ending.
