I LOVE discarded ex-library books. this is the first time ive ever seen a hardcover w/ the front cover of a different paperback edition PASTED ON to the front of the hardcover in place of a dust jacket.. some librarian frankenstein’d this fuckin thing arts & crafts style & thats just so raw

in the wake of the uk supreme court ruling, any of the variations on “so you want trans men in the women’s bathroom then?”, usually with a photo of a passing trans man attached. it’s meant to be allyship but it’s genuinely doing more harm than good.

even more common than that though is the broader way that cis people will speak to trans men in a way they would absolutely never speak to an equivalent cis man (ie same age, race, social context, etc). usually it’s infantilising, but can also be hyper-critical of how we perform or “chose” manhood.

But like I said I'm agender so there's no real "passing" for me, and while I'd prefer to pass as a man over a woman, another layer to me not liking the compliment could be related to just not wanting to be perceived esp about things I can't control

Slightly different as I'm agender/trans masc but I had a friend compliment me on how my face had masculinized, like mentioned a specific part, but I kind of hated it I think because it was out of my control and possibly made me think of other "feminine" parts of myself

Oh shit wait i figured out the actual one that happens a lot: older women in my life will often make jokes when I talk about transitioning like, "so when does the manspreading start" or like "how long do you have to be on T before you start interrupting women." it is genuinely so hurtful.

I think this is perhaps a universal trans experience but I specifically have been asked about bottom surgery, much more than is comfortable. usually after a supportive "wow it's so great you were able to get top surgery," it'll come as a "but you aren't planning to do..... all of it... are you?"

now, despite being assumed to be a teen girl by almost every cis person, on the rare occasion that i tell a cis person that i'm a dude, they immediately assume that i live my life as 100% male, that i have male privilege, that my oppression is faked for attention, and i am 'men's rights activist.'

at every job I've ever had, a supervisor has asked me about my genitals... my current one asked me during training my first week on the job.

every time I've ever gotten HR involved in anything it only made things worse, so I've given up on that. I just try to express discomfort & politely redirect

Also a lot of cis people seem to operate under the idea that the moment you say you're a man you suddenly get access to unqualified male privilege. For example they think that because cis men make more money than cis women, if someone transitions to a man they just automatically make more money
