Cleaned up a lot of cruft with portals to make them perform way better, especially when theres multiple close by/in view. Not perfect but theyre useable! last thing to work in is to get audio to 'flow' through them.

Its got clunk, but the innards/flow of settings and title screens are up and running. Think thats the last foundational thing I wanted to hit before I can now just cruise on the fun game parts as far as I can take for the next two weeks.

i take frenzy damage every time i see someone go "well i just use it for the boring stuff". what are you TALKING about? if it's boring or unimportant, why are you putting it in? NPC dialogue is fertile ground for worldbuilding, creating verisimilitude, conveying important information, and hijinks!!
Buy a solo indie dev's game because I want to support them.

Find out it uses OpenAI to write "non-important NPC dialogue".

Since ability upgrades are kinda important to track for a metroidvania, made a lil widget to show em. Kinda odd as is, but my plan beyond the jam is to expand this kinda slidein menu, in lieu of normal full screen pause menu stuff

Unearthed some extra old npc/attack stuff I had lying around. Was fond of these lil chompy guys when I made em but I wanna model up something specific for the jam if time permits. Quite a mess under the hood tho thats for sure 😅

Sorta on an unintended hiatus with my platformer thats been bumming me out but #MetroidvaniaMonthJam is here to bring back my motivation! My goal/hope is to package up what I mostly already have into a lil metroidjam game and springboard back into regular progress again

"Quality of Life Improvements" are sometimes a bad idea for your game. Don't round out your interesting edges because you're afraid a player will feel a hard feeling!

And heres the afterimage workin on just the right actions. Thought Id try a Fresnel effect on it but it kinda just makes things busier so i'll sit with it. Fun lil weekend thing to do tho

inventing a unit like scovilles but for games, where instead of the pain you experience from eating a spicy chili it's the amount of mental anguish you are experiencing from a sense of being compelled to continue playing the game despite wishing you were doing literally anything else
