Traveler, reader, dog and human mom, political scientist (in no particular order). I work at a mind factory in Boulder, CO but my views are not theirs.

Democracy isn’t going to save itself, people.
Everything is bullshit.

Taught my last class of the semester today. They were such a great class and I was short with them on a couple of things today, so was not the best note to end on. I have never felt so ground down. Enjoying a late lunch and a margarita to decompress.

Did not expect to wake up to “eugenics is fine, actually” but it is 2025 so I probably should have seen it coming.

This is not something that happens in a free country.
TX Tech has a flow chat for guidance on what can be taught in the university system. Two things:
1. Very little content seems to be permitted. This is partisan control of the curriculum.
2. I would not enjoy teaching under these conditions, but I really would not want to be a Chair or Dean.

Do jobs really have to send the form rejection email that you don’t “meet the minimum qualifications” when you very clearly ticked every box in the posting and highlighted them in both the cover letter and the custom CV? It’s fine, you have better candidates, I didn’t make it—just say that, please.

Air rage is caused by sweatpants.
Duffy: "Trump talks about the golden age of transportation. But the golden age in transportation truly begins with you ... People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly ... so we want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season: Help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

NEW: Colorado’s county election clerks (majority Republican) implore Gov Polis (D) not to release Tina Peters to the Trump administration. Their joint letter says it would be a slap in the face to clerks who endure threats due to Peters’ election rigging conspiracy theories.

I don’t watch much TV, but I finished the series Animal Kingdom last night and I kinda loved it. It is based on an Australian movie I need to see now. It had an Australian aesthetic (I lived part time in Oz for a long time), but a big budget production value. Maybe I should watch more TV.

I wrote 3700 words today. Would be great if those words were not grade appeal recommendations, but here we are. I have developed a ridiculously passive aggressive approach to writing things I wish I didn’t have to do— using fonts I hate. Today it was aptos.

In response to this claim that the "strategy didn't work."

The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.

And giving in now will embolden him. Things will likely get worse.

Also, I love In the Heights. I found some great people to block in the replies to this. It’s ok to like things made by people whose politics are not a 100% match to your own.
are we allowed to talk about how Hamilton is good again yet or is that still, like, off limits

💯
Tonight's even more proof the mainstream reporters who are still on Twitter are suffering from a brain problem akin Havana Syndrome that is preventing them from accurately doing their jobs. They are being cooked alive by a snuff-focused apartheid algorithm.

There’s a lot of people who claim to be really into politics but who are actually really into being righteously angry, and they’re pretty shitty sources of information. Anger is addictive and makes you stupid, try to limit it.

If one were to want to watch coverage of the NYC election results tonight that are not constrained by *all the things* is there a place? I don’t watch TV news anymore but I would like to see some authentic live reactions. Possibly this is not available anymore in our restricted media environment.

So weird as a like 15th generation Protestant to cheer for the Pope. Perhaps the Great Schism can be bridged…
Incredibly funny to watch the right wing going Oh so just because I love money and hate poor people I'm a bad Christian according to "the pope"???

Starvation as a weapon of war is deeply troubling. Starvation as a policy of domestic politics is a dystopian nightmare.
The USDA now threatening grocery stores who offer discounts to SNAP recipients.

People are going hungry. Their benefits were illegally cut off leaving them to starve.

40% of SNAP households have children.

If grocery stores & local business want to step up to help… let them.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

This would be a good time to remind everyone that I have determined, after living in all four of the continental U.S. time zones (and several others), that Mountain Time is the best for sports. Hands down, no contest.
