Timely (grim) new NBER working paper: Households screened out of SNAP "suffer tangible downstream economic consequences. Specifically, we find that process-related denials increase debt and delinquencies, and decrease credit scores."

The right has correctly identified the professional-managerial class as the class with the most revolutionary potential in the current period and have directed all their energies to destroy it before it becomes aware of itself and its own power
it's utterly wild how the Heritage Foundation president talks about other people

if you found a guy talking like this outside, you'd probably call the cops

"Why don't people support welfare programs?"

Racism. More specifically, anti-Blackness.

White folks asked about who welfare serves overestimate the number of Black people on welfare. Not only that, but just the mere THOUGHT of who welfare supports led less white people to support it. #blacksky
I actually really love Phoenix, notwithstanding the valley of the interminable sun’s treatment of standard time and daylight savings time.
Had a lovely time in Phoenix this weekend for Judge Mary Schroeder’s 50th anniversary on the bench.

If both you and your partner make $95,000/year or more, you are in the top 10% of earners.

A really underappreciated issue in American politics is that there are many rich people who do not wish to acknowledge that they are, in fact, rich.
Top 10% by income now getting half of all consumption

I found the article referenced (which the author could have cited directly but didn't). Teachers biggest concern with AI use is student over reliance on it.

My hypothesis: Not a single person at this party has actually read Great Gatsby.

Of, for 1% that have, it was in high school, and they never thought about it.

It is *not* a happy-ending book. Or one flattering to dressed-up Mar-a-Lago type crowds.

Or to greedy rich desperate for social approval
Trump is holding a Great Gatsby/Roaring 20s-themed party at his private club in Palm Beach tonight as he tries to withhold SNAP and health care subsidies from millions of Americans. (via Kellie Meyer)
