So much of the conversation about cycling assumes two wheels and lycra. But it’s far broader. For many Disabled people, cycling is mobility. Trikes, recumbents, handcycles, e-bikes, tandems can be aids to freedom and independence.

Federal Secret Police and plainclothes ICE agents kidnap multiple people from a neighborhood in Chicago. They then deploy teargas and brutally beat neighbors who come out to express their concern.

Who knew - no-one wants to get a chippy dinner home on the bike. It is absolutely essential that food is only ever transported by car. Nobody told me when I've been to my local by bike. I obviously should have joined the mass of cars jamming up the nearby roads and pavements!
Extract of a road.cc article showing local business objections to cycle provision:

"Installing cycle lanes may be 'politically correct, but the reality is that when they impact parking provisions, it has a detrimental effect on local businesses. We do not have the climate to prioritise cycle lanes over cars," Alleddandro Varesse, the boss at the Blue Lagoon chippy told the Daily Record.

Hayley and Ewen Logan, of Logan the Jewellers, added: "We have yet to hear of a single business or resident who supports this idea, keen cyclists included. Even they like to get their takeaways home while they're still hot."

I've rarely managed to transport a chippy dinner home by bike, nearly every time I've tried I find somewhere on the way home that looks like a nice place to stop and eat. That's as far as dinner makes it 🤣

If someone invented a miracle pill that reduced your risk of cancer, heart disease and strokes as well as boosting mood, memory, and lifespan it would be the most popular drug ever. Except we already have it and it's called exercise, and most people can't be arsed doing it.

Reform UK's deputy leader has broken parliamentary rules by failing to register hospitality. So what's the story with Richard Tice, the French villa and the ex-Kremlin minister?

This tweet has been doing the rounds on Twitter now that Nathan Gill has pleaded guilty.

If only someone had tried to investigate UKIP & Russian interference 🧐

There’s another timeline where the Guardian supported me, doubled down on the investigation & I look 5 years younger ..

Important findings in this @ippr.org report by @beccam-c.bsky.social & @msingerhobbs.bsky.social on the inequalities entrenched by #UKCarCulture.

Cycling is the most affordable, efficient means of urban mobility. But planners and politicians have removed that option for a huge number of people....

The story of the murder of convicted paedophile Ian Watkins made me realise that the casual throwing around of "nonce" as an insult by certain people (especially right wing) isn't really about children, but of making the person on the receiving end a target of acceptable violence.

Obviously it would help if people could remember they'll need their ticket when they reach the turnstiles but so many don't

Train tickets in a app. Arrive at station, start app, go to list of tickets, select ticket, select outbound or return, select view ticket. Get off train, repeat. It doesn't take very long but when there's 20 people in front of you doing this that takes a while.

Oh, you drive a car? Make sure you don't drive drunk or use your phone while you drive!

Saying this every time someone mentions driving would make more sense than bringing up helmets whenever someone mentions biking.

We also saw "pluralistic ignorance": MOST PEOPLE SUPPORTED NON-CAR TRAVEL, BUT THOUGHT THEY WERE THE MINORITY! 65-69% said they support non-car travel more than other people, which can't be true. Does the majority assume their own view is odd and so go quiet in debate, thus enabling loud minorities?
Part of a diagram showing some data from the UK. This shows, for example, how when discussing non-car travel, 65% of people thought their own level of support was higher than the public's support, and only 6% thought their own level of support for non-car travel was lower than the general public's support

Well, it's benefits election time again...

Starting next year, after we add a child to our health insurance policy, we'll be paying $574/month for health insurance, and that's just our portion. My wife's employer covers the rest.

Tories and Reform want to quit the European Convention on Human Rights.

Since 1980, the ECHR court has heard 29 cases of immigrant deportation. UK won 16. No defeats in the last 5 yrs.

Quitting ECHR won't fix illegal immigration, will destroy our freedoms and rights.

We can all agree that the attack on the Synagogue in Manchester was terrorism

So why is setting a Mosque alight just 'arson' and a 'hate crime' and also not terrorism?
