He refused to use "SimCom" in the classroom when they started out. Along with Ceil Lucas and Scott Liddell, he really fought to get ASL used in the classroom and for deaf people to be seen as the experts they are for their own languages and communities 😍✊👊

My Field Methods class this year is documenting the experiences of the Gallaudet Linguistics department. Got to talk with Bob Johnson today - 1st professor & chair of the department. He was also my dissertation advisor. He started in '81 and retired in '12. So many good stories #LingBing
Sunlight hitting Bob as he looks at the camera, fist on chin Julie on left with hand over heart. Bob on right smiling. Screenshot of them in their zoom rooms

Are there still delays? The Glenmont-bound train that just left Shady Grove is going remarkably slow - any reason why?

I’ve been waiting for Democrats to just crash TF out and say “ok bet, if there are no rules anymore, our platform is student loan forgiveness, erasure of credit card interest debt, eliminating interest rates over 5%, stopping spam calls to your cellphones, etc.” where is project 2028?

The really exasperating thing is all this ends if even a slight majority of white folks can accept that a multiracial democracy is the only viable route.

This was probably one of my favorite bits! I'm so glad you three wrote this. I actually was just talking with my class about Labov and went looking for some resources to share with them. This was definitely my favorite find this time. Thank you for this
