Can I tell you a secret? My least favourite part of NFNF is the publicity. I’ve told everyone how great it is, so it feels like nagging to tell you again.

If you all just subscribed we could stop this right now.

It is PROPERLY amazing, mind you 😉

😂😂 I have to write everything in my calendar these days so I don’t miss something … and even then it’s tricky.

Obsessed with this

The Fox Brides of Hookland folklore are more than a placing the witch as a transforming thing, as shapeshifting seductress. They are a powerful linking of her power to woods and wild places; they are a fear-telling of ferality, her place outside society’s rigid structures. – #EmilyCBanting #WitchSky

Keith Johnstone’s Impro was my bible at Uni - for life and for acting.

Just discovered this other text exists and already getting that same trembly, OMG! feeling on opening it.
Close up of Impro for Storytellers by Keith Johnstone. Grey cover, writing at bottom, image above of a tribe of (African?) people watching someone who looks as if they are telling a great story

No. Well, yes. Hang on. I got the first audition for this and am waiting to hear for the one I went to last Sunday 😂😂
jackmmorris.bsky.social
This is the most technical show I’ve ever been in - the back stage crew are ASTOUNDING. And now I know what fake blood tastes like 🫣 (sweet, as it happens).

Anyhow, 7th - 15 November, Brighton. If you’re passing

Makes sense! I definitely do add description but only if I think it’s vital - which I think is maybe the positive spin on the above. I don’t want anyone to think it’s okay to skim it!

Ironically, structure and form is the bit it’s taken me the longest to master
jackmmorris.bsky.social
It’s so interesting, isn’t it? How that might impact our writing too
jackmmorris.bsky.social
Words. Even if I get descriptions given me I don’t ‘see’ a character or setting (often skim descriptions unless they offer clues to meaning). I do have a visual imagination but not via the written word. More into plot (figuring out what it all means). Or the sound of the words.

And you?

I always find this fascinating -- I know @louiestowell.bsky.social and @sarahmcintyre.bsky.social have hosted conversations here/back in Twitter about how we experience reading differently, and maybe it's time for another one 🤗

What happens when you read? Is it pictures, words? Is there colour?

(it's not entirely frivolous, I find it really hard to create mental images, so most literary characters exist for me as a sort of floating word cloud)

Babe, come over, we’re wrestling the greasy pigs of our own unreason

🤞🤞🤞 audition was fun, anyhow. Most critical audience you’ll ever have, other auditionees 😂 but everyone was lovely
jackmmorris.bsky.social
Just got out of another audition. Course the trouble is I go in all blase and come out wanting it. It’s another corker of a play. Buggerit.

My fate is in the lap of the delightful directors and their vision now … dum dum duuuuumm 🎶

How fabulous is this?!

My story projected onto the Fremantle Port Authority building at Fremantle Harbour as part of the inaugural Totally Lit Festival. So proud! Loved seeing all the micros projected into beautiful Walyalup for this gorgeous celebration of storytelling

And very well deserved 😘

Well that’s rather lovely 👏👏👏👏

The tangled dead, root-pulled from above and below, feel scratches upon long vanished, phantom flesh. Their fancy houses have become cells where they wait on visitors who never come. Necropolis bounded and more than half-forgotten, many of them ache for hell. – #CLNolan

Aw this is fabulously written but … ouch … xx
jackmmorris.bsky.social
Feel like I have been too much in the world lately. Lovely, of course, but now it’s time to draw my horns in, read more, stare pensively into where the fire would be if I could ever be arsed to get the chimney swept.

Maybe, maybe, time to pick up a pen …
