I've realized I'm unable to read DMs currently. My state just passed regressive surveillance legislation. @bsky.app, I know it's not your fault, but there's no way I'm giving you my SSN, credit card, or ID in order to read DMs. Sorry to those who've DMed. I can see the notifications. That's it.

You would need to take the JLPT to officially confirm your level. Granted, that isn't a requirement. Speaking only for myself, I'd say, though, that it's best for applicants to have N2 or N1 abilities for editorial roles in this field.

All PRH positions are limited to U.S., unfortunately.

Congrats! When I read the announcement earlier, I thought it sounded like a cool series!

A minor note is that Kinme actually does wet cleaning rather than dry cleaning. クリーニング is typically translated as dry cleaning, but as we see in this series, it doesn't always explicitly refer to that. When we talk about this manga, we describe the shop as a "cleaning service" or "laundry service."

We're currently pretty far into working on this series—as far as volume 7 already. Now that a few volumes are out in English, it's great to see interest picking up. Thanks for giving those interviews, Hattori Sensei!

I've been thinking this very thing for a while. Yes, both things can be true!
readjapaneseliterature.com
Folks keep trying to claim the Japanese don’t really read/write stories about cats—it’s just a phenomenon in translation.

1.) We get a misrepresentative number of cat stories in translation.

2.) There are still a hell of a lot of cat stories written in Japanese!

“Yes and…”, my friends.
zackdavisson.com
Japan has an entire magazine that is just cat manga.

I think @philipsimon.bsky.social needs this for research.

Just a reminder, but ChatGBT is NOT a search engine. It's a statistics based random word generator. The results you get are not guaranteed to be accurate. Please don't use it. (Same with Google's generated results.)

Have I mentioned Yoshi's Island is one of my favorite games?

Development files for Yoshi's Island reveal that Yoshi was originally meant to have a human voice. Lines for transforming into his various forms, including unused ones like Tree Yoshi, have been found.

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to see and hear one legend and see the work of another. During this Japan-themed weekend, I also saw a coworker from my Japan-related imprint and had meetings related to the JET Program/JETAA.

Because I just got my comps in and the word is already out there, I thought I'd take this opportunity to confirm I'm editing Dragon Quest: The Mark of Erdrick. It's a great manga, and I'm excited it's finally getting an English release after all these years!
