For comparison, every robotic mission NASA has ever sent in its history, from the dawn of the Space Age 65 years ago to today, from Mercury to Pluto and beyond, has cost less than $40B.

I know which one has done more for humankind and which one should be dismantled.
Mark Zuckerberg’s gamble on the ‘Metaverse’ has cost Meta more than $77B

The company now plans to cut spending on it and shift focus to AI wearables instead

Sometimes, the very concept of big-business money makes my head hurt. So, Facebook's Metaverse fell through, wasting 77 billion.

You could hire 10,000 of the smartest people in the games industry, paying them each $100k a year, for an entire decade, and only spend $10bn.

«The future of education has already arrived, as a liquidation sale of everything that once made it matter.»

Read this piece!
«The more we rely on algorithms, the more we normalize their values: automation, prediction, standardization, and corporate dependency. Eventually these priorities fade from view and come to seem natural—“just the way things are.”»

AI is Destroying the University and Learning Itself
Students use AI to write papers, professors use AI to grade them, degrees become meaningless, and tech companies make fortunes. Welcome to the death of higher education.

It is incredible to me how made up this issue is. No one gave a shit ten years ago. Sure there were your individual mad, ignorant bigots but *Theresa May* was pushing for self-ID because it was the last little bit of logistical sorting out of a settled question: we're ok with Trans people

it might seem surprising that the people who said “look, let trans people live their lives, but i have Reasonable Concerns about sports and toilets” aren’t up in arms about this, but what you have to remember is that those people who said that are liars who were lying

Really.
“Let people enjoy things” have become code for: shut up about how [thing] affects you and society.
Stating that buying IPs like Harry Potter and Five Nights at Freddie’s literally finances fascism isn’t me stopping you from buying shit.
It’s informing you.
December 6, 2025 at 2:18 PM
Yeah yeah let people enjoy things but I feel watching people share their corporate mandated summaries of media consumption to be like seeing people be proud of drinking the kool-aid.

A massive problem today is the uneven distribution of shame. Some of us are running dedicated on-site shame servers 24/7 while others have no access to shame at all, even though they desperately need it. What we need to do is put shame in the cloud
