Great article. I think though we might all be conflating two issues: reflection and manipulation. On the latter, bad actors and particularly ones with deep pockets are unaeguably using these platforms to normalise some beliefs and positions that until recently were beyond the pale. 1/

"Racist people are firing and laying off Black women at three times the rate of other women."

😬Yikes! It sounds bad when you say it like that!

"Black women are losing jobs at 3 times the rate."

Much better! Makes it sound like the Black women just need to be more careful or better at their jobs!
Black Women Are Losing Jobs At Three Times The Rate Of Other Women | Essence
New labor data shows Black women accounted for a disproportionate share of job losses across 2025, especially in federal, education, and care-sector roles.

A model like NIHR's PGfAR scheme would have been great, but adapted so that follow-on funding had to be led by young people and bring in one or more disciplines missing from the main grant (social policy, implementation science, health economics etc)

I especially think the Life in the UK test is a dumb way to test how immigrants have acclimatised and integrated. It's a bunch of parrot-learning on facts most British people don't know. Here's a taster: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZcJ...

TLDR: People don't feel shit cause they believe wild conspiracy theories, they believe CTs cause they feel shit. CT beliefs are often confabulations explaining their existential predicament. I drew on LOTS empirical stuff to try & make this defeasible:

We also need capacity building to support a new generation of researchers.

The only biosphere in the known universe capable of supporting human life is being turned into a hell planet because most of Earth's governments refuse to stop trying to satisfy the insatiable greed of a plutocracy composed of people who already have more money than they could spend in 20 lifetimes.
Point of no return: a hellish ‘hothouse Earth’ getting closer, scientists say

In the qualitative study, young people said how important relational stability was for them.

However, caregivers often lack agency, and YP with high mental health needs are likely not to have their needs met.
