If you're new here, this is a thread full of my adoptee tweets. Some are about adoption generally and some are about either my adoptive or bio family (or a combination of the two). So feel free to scroll through and catch up on the hashtag Crucial Lore™️. 🥚
I've got a feeling that a bunch of newbies just found Tony's feed/starter pack because I just gained a whole pile of new followers who all have something about adoption in their bios.

So, hi new friends! I talk about LOTS of things, not just the fact that I was bought from the catholic baby store!
I’ll repeat my standing invitation to #adoptees: add yourselves to my Adoptees of Bluesky feed. The only posts of yours that show up in the feed are those that include a few terms like #adoption #adoptee #adoptees #adopteevoices and 🥚 (because we’re supposed to have fallen from some stork’s cloaca)

“Young adults aren’t having enough kids” bro I’m employed full-time with a damn PhD and I’m struggling to afford both groceries and rent.

I love kids but I can barely afford my pets.

Want us to have kids? Try UBI, rent control, universal healthcare, cheaper child care.

You've only got a few days of #SteamNextFest before the demo for Laugh Track goes away FOREVER! ... yeah, no, it's gonna hang around until the full game is released in January. But! You've only got a few days to RIDE THE HYPE TRAIN okay it's more of a hype push cart and it's barely moving BUT STILL

Nonsense indeed! I'm not of my adoptive parents' ancestors. To deny that truth is to deny my very existence!

Amazing how easily people warp reality to perpetuate their own false narratives so they can feel better about themselves.

Yet another example of the selfishness embedded within adoption.
🥚
Read an article about Canadian birthright citizenship and international adoptees today. And of course, adoptees are treated like inferior options. But the thing that jumped out at me was an adoptive mom insisting that her ancestors were her adopted child’s ancestors. Which is nonsense. 🥚
Also, in their VERY meager defense, looking for lady partners when you're a dude vs dude partners when you're a lady is like the difference between dying of thirst and drowning. It doesn't make that behavior okay in the slightest, but it helps to explain part of where it comes from.
Somebody once told them "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take" and they are not clever enough to understand that there's nuance involved.
I mean, maybe you should tell them that. "I just want to warn you that if you try to get fresh with my sister, she's gonna straight up break your nose."
Well, yes. Obviously. It doesn't sniff like kitty yet. This must be rectified immediately!
Friendo, I'm Allo A.F. and even I'm like "Ew. EW! WHAT?! No! WHY?" I don't know who the hell raised those troglodytes to be like that, but I have a feeling they'd be embarrassed to find out their children were acting like this on Al Gore's internet.

Therapist: "You didn't ask to be a part of this family. They chose to adopt you...."

"But why do I feel like I constantly have to apologize for their decision?" 🥚

"I'm so grateful to be adopted. But..."

"But what?"

"Sometimes I think that's all I'm allowed to feel. Like, God forbid I ever get annoyed...or seem unhappy, or...or get pissed off, like I'm supposed to always just feel so lucky that I've been given a second chance."

When Republicans are pre-butting a pro-democracy rally like No Kings and making shit up left and right to scare people, you know they're losing and in panic mode.

They are building a Propaganda State.

They are cooking the books on job creation.

Now they are rigging death numbers so no one knows how many people die because of their attacks on vaccines and science.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).
Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist):

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

Printing presses kept their letters in cases.

Capital letters went in the upper case.
Smaller letters went in the lower case.

This is why we say ‘UPPER CASE’ and ‘lower case.’

Ok, but what did we call them before the invention of the printing press?

MAJUSCULE and minuscule.

This is why I think the next Democratic president needs to use the EXACT tools that SCOTUS has handed Trump. Don't leave room for any distinctions.

Impound funds for deportation. Give ICE the USAID treatment. Refuse to collect government-backed debt. Purge MAGA loyalists from the executive branch.

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.
Expletive infixation was how my linguistics teacher in college explained the concept of infixes to us.

"You know what prefixes and suffixes are. But English has only one infix. And, although it's never been taught to you formally, you know exactly what it is and probably use it frequently!"

Explain your username:

In about 2007 or so, I decided I didn't want whatever nonsense AOL ScreenName I'd chosen at like 9 years old anymore. So I went online and found a "username generator" website thing and mashed "generate" a few times until it gave me InsidiousPie, which made me giggle.
Explain your username:

Its my name.
explain your username:

all capoeiristas formally receive an insulting nickname based on their idiosyncrasies. my wrestling background led to several awkward in-game grappling situations, so mine is "lula" ("squid"). b/c that username's often taken online i further specified it to my favorite squid.
