Hugely encouraging news from Brazil today. President Lula has instructed four ministries to draw up a roadmap for a just transition away from fossil fuels, and asked his government to formulate an energy transition fund using income from petroleum revenues.

Israel hunted a 70 year old lady down with a gun drone and then hoovered above to make sure she bled out next to her dying son. They both join almost 1,000 Palestinians Israel has massacred or maimed in its genocide during the "ceasefire".

I wonder how many of the cars parked around NYPD precincts (both department and personal vehicles) are really being used for police work, and how many are just sort of littered about for very occasional use in these various petty grifts nypost.com/2025/12/06/u...

One of my most favourite glass vessels: A marvellous Roman vessel in the form of a pig, made of blue glass. It was used to hold ointment or perfume.
Found in a burial in Cologne. Dating late 2nd/early 3rd century AD

helps to think about the details like any regular crime you'd see on one of the 800 cop shows that run on TV constantly: these guys committed one set of murders, thought it over, and then decided to kill the witnesses as part of the coverup. mention of drugs is just jingling keys at this point

"Defund the police" became a rallying cry simply because *nobody* seemed willing to rein in police violence and murder by any other means, including successful prosecution. The only way PDs and cities and counties were going to get the message is if you starved the beast.

as bad as Oslo Accords were, just consider that Bill Clinton just started saying "Judea and Samaria" out of the blue a few years ago. Trump and Biden are in office the most pro-Israel presidents in history. We have a serious disloyalty problem in our government.

Just to give you some idea of what this is like, it'd be like Hillary headlining some Fox News or NY Post event. Israel Hayom was literally formed to give Netanyahu good coverage, and was distributed for free to undercut other Israeli newspapers. It would refuse to cover any damaging Netanyahu news.
New: Hillary Clinton will be speaking at an event hosted by Israel Hayom (Israel's most read newspaper, run by Israeli-American billionaire & Trump megadonor Miriam Adelson).

She'll join John Fetterman, Eric Adams, Trump UN Ambassador Mike Waltz, Biden official Amos Hochstein, and Israeli officials

During my PhD i kept coming across this number about the maximum grid penetration for renewables.

So, I started to dig. Tracing back what references I could. Never found a single analytical or empirical basis for it. It appeared to have sprung from thin air based on some engineers' intuition.
People used to say, with great confidence, that variable renewables could never safely provide more than 5% of grid power. That estimate has crept up ever since, though the "great confidence" part never wavers.

Anyway, about China ...
