Ways in which my autism is unexpectedly helpful: walking my mother through connecting her new Bluetooth headphones to her phone after they were connected to her computer. Naturally breaking things down step by step is really useful for that kind of thing, and also, oof, I'm tired. #techsupport

It's been ten years since we lost Sir Terry Pratchett (GNU) and the last of the Discworld books, The Shepherd's Crown, was published. It's time for a Discworld re-read that will end with finally reading the last Discworld book. insertscenehere.blogspot.com/2025/09/grea...

Well now I know what my next goal/reward will be. If I ever get something accepted for publication, I want a basket of snacks.
another thing nobody tells you about traditional publishing is if you win a big award or get on a bestseller list or something they will send you a big fancy basket of snacks or something else nice. or maybe that is just my macmillan buckaroos. either way, IM DOIN IT FOR THE SNACKS

When it's been less than a week since the last WorldCon ended and the next WorldCon already has to make a statement of apology, it's not looking so good for the convention scene.
(1/7) LAcon V apologizes for using words and icons that connote Westward Expansion and the displacement and colonization of Indigenous peoples. This does not reflect the vision or values of the convention. Our statement is available at the link and given in full: www.lacon.org/2025/08/21/s...

Cautionary tale time! In college, I worked in the library and was organizing the thesis tower one summer (meaning skimming through the theses written by graduates from the ~100 years the school has been around). Came upon a Philosophy thesis of ~30 pages, which is SHORT. 1/2
Good morning! The only thing worse than losing a chapter is losing multiple chapters

So back up your work!!!

Husband will make a point of calling me when he hears about a book on NPR that he thinks I'd like.
QT with one little seemingly inconsequential thing a friend, spouse, or other loved one does that makes you feel loved.

For example, my spouse refills my weekly pillbox on Saturday nights. I've never seen her do it, but the pills are there on Sunday mornings.

Hello and welcome to WorldCon 2025 and the Hugos! I'm streaming it even though I'm here live, because I hit the wall with people, and unfortunately I missed all but the very tail end of the singing "Down the Hugo Road." Now we're back to our hosts Nisi Shawl and K. Tempest Bradford. #Hugo

WorldCon has begun! Did a side quest to Pike Place Market with some online friends (they exist in 3D! Who knew?), and now on my first volunteer shift. We're starting strong. Hope to see some of y'all around!

Results from @nycmidnight.bsky.social flash fiction contest round 1! I didn't make it through, but I got an honorable mention, and the feedback was really positive. Considering it was my first time with both flash and romance, I've been basking in the glow of positivity all day.

Adventures in Comfort Food: recently, @tacotimenw.bsky.social changed the habanero sauce, and I'm not a fan. I used their online form to, well, complain, and they...followed up? Asked for more info? I've heard of this "customer service," but haven't seen it in the wild in AGES. I am impressed!
